Car Holders - open and closed ?

I picked up my E90 today - it certainly has a "wow factor" about it.

I'll need a car holder and I note that Nokia does not seem to make a "proper" cradle for the phone.

The Brodit would normally be my next option as that's how I hold my iPod and I'm very happy with it. They seem to have two options vertical and horizontal.

Can you fit the E90 "open" in the vertical mount or vice versa - or is there an alternative "premium" car mount I should consider.

I am assuming that I want the phone open in Satnav mode (once I get some software) and closed when it's just being a phone and I know where I'm going

alternatively, how practical is it to navigate in closed mode - or is that just a waste of the big screen.

Incidentally, is there a plug/adaptor that fits allowing simaultaneous wired headset and 12v power or do you just have two plugs side by side ?

I have an active Brodit mount for mine in the closed position. It accepts the phone snugly, so there's no way of using it with the phone open. I didn't even consider the open mount - I don't think it's practical for in-car use.

I've used a number of different SatNav applications on my E90, in the Brodit mount - in closed mode. That's partly because most of them don't actually work (or work well) on the internal screen anyway, partly because I have a mount for using the phone closed, and partly because they're geared up for use with a numeric keypad, not a QWERTY one anyway.

P.S. Just spotted your last question about the headset socket. I have a number of 3.5mm-2.5mm adapters (kept in different vehicles and with my wired headset), all purchased for about 1-2 on eBay. The tapered style ones fit perfectly well side-by-side with the power, and I use mine to plug the headphone output into my car radios. In combination with the phone's microphone, this makes a reasonable hands free solution for occasional phone calls.

TomTom

TomTom appear to work just fine on the internal screen - and really need the keyboard, so I am considering getting the Brodit holder for 'open mode'.

Aparently the Herbert Richter fits my needs. I'll let you all know when it arrives. I'll be mating it with a Brodit "tilt swivel" so I'll be able to rotate it 90 degrees as required.
