New FW V2 stretches wallpaper

Has anyone else noted that applying an image from the gallery to set as wallpaper stretches the image vertically? Is there a way to get around this. My Missus's 6300 displays wallpaper images great.

Yup, often the aspect ratio is all screwed up, nothing can be done about it really, other than cropping the picture to be the size of the screen minus the top and bottom parts.

Fullscreen wallpaper is a much better choice, though not possible without resorting to home grown themes and long hours tearing your hair out with carbide stuff.

There are a few other options available, some people like to suggest OwnSkin - I think it's trash, but that's just me. Another alternative is DYI themes, a small application that you install on your phone - it allows you to choose from a few predefined templates and add in wallpaper and such. I've found it to be a tad difficult to get colors right without using either very dark or very light pictures.

The only other option that I am aware of is to use something like AnimSprite to put a full screen wallpaper or animation permanently over your idle screen.

There is not very much information available about the application, though once you have the right image formats it's easy to use.

Images can be in several different formats, including animated gif, jpg, etc. though it works best if you use mbm with full screen pictures.

It's not so trivial to get your wallpaper switched over to mbm format, and if you want transparency you also have to include a mask - the advantages are huge once you get the hang of it.

You'll need to find a copy of bmconv.exe - it's available in one of the Nokia SDK's. You will also need wallpaper with resolution 240x320 and a mask image, both of these will need to be saved using the bitmap format (.bmp)

The syntax to use to convert your picture to an mbm file is:
bmconv c:\wallpaper.mbm /c24c:\wallpaper.bmp /8c:\mask.bmp

Oh, your mask file can be black for fully transparent, white for solid - you probably don't want to use white or black, but some grey shade in between. You'll need to experiment with what looks right for you.

/c24 and /8 specify color depths. You may need to change the paths and filenames to match your needs.

Upload the mbm file to your phone, open AnimSprite and load up the picture - once done you can go back to your idle screen and you'll have your wallpaper the way it should be - kind of.

Well slap me sideways!! I kind of follow your reply, but how much work just to get an unstretched image?? I appreciate the N95 is a monster handset, but like I said, My Wife's 6300 just flings the image up without a problem (except for a little cropping). I think I'll check out Theme DIY to see how it resolves the problem. Thanks for your informative reply.
