Nokia n95, tomtom and car kit!!

Yo guys, in my car i have a bluetooth head unit, which is linked to the N95. Now i have just installed TOMTOM software on the n95, and what really supprised me is that the N95 can talk to the car kit and the GPS reciever at the same time!

The only downside is that when the N95 is in car kit mode, any voice made by the tomtom is not heard. The only noise to come over tha car speakers is when i recieve a phone call, or make a phone call.

Is there anyway to like set the N95 to use its internal speakers when it uses the tomtom applicaion, or am i asking too much here?

Hey,

I tried this some time last year as like yourself I had TomTom on my mobile but wanted to hear the voiced directions through the cars speakers.

I found the radio, a Pioneer head unit, while it conencted to my phone ok and I could hear the calls etc. would not play the TomTom instructions. This I learnt standing in Halfords at the time.
That idea went out the window pretty quick as it would not do what I wanted.

So I went looking for another solution & found it in the form of a Parrott bluetooth car kit which does what I was looking for, eg. I can make & receive calls but also mutes the radio and plays the TomTom voice instructions through the cars speakers.
So I fitted an Alpine head unit with the Parrott connected inbetween.

The reason you can have both the GPS & car kit working at the same time is because the GPS uses a BT serial connection and the car kit use a BT Audio connection.

Yes i understand they are using like different ports. I dont want it comming through the car speakers all i want is the phone to say the tomtom instruction. There is a auxilary input on the headunit, but to put something in this it involves taking the head unit out. any other ideas? How does the one you have work?

Hey,

Ah, I'm with you now. The setup you have already palys the TomTom instructions through the car speakers, muting the radio/cd?
You dont want this to happen but will do as while the phone is paired to the head unit for the hands free calling the phone will route all tomtom prompts through the head unit as well.

I dont see any real fix to this problem for you, other than not having the phone paired with the head unit until such time as you are making or receiving a call.

My setup when the phone is connected to the Parrot car kit all the tomtom insturctions mute the radio and come through the speakers. Only if I disconenct the Parrot will the tomtom sounds come from the phone, but I will not be able to make/receive calls with the car kit either.
