7610 crashes at start-up

Today I installed MGS Karting to my phone memory. I didn't have 'MGS Runtime' so obviously it didn't work. I was just going to uninstall MGS karting when the phone suddenly crashed. After that, the NOKIA text showed up and disappeared after few seconds. This text appeared and disappeared several times and finally after about 3 minutes the phone switched off. This happens every time I try to switch on the phone.
Yesterday I also installed this freeware game TapTaTöp. I opened the program and played the game. When I shut the game the whole phone seemed to switch off. It restarted and everything worked fine. The crashing was similar to the descrption above (the only difference was that with TapTaTöp it didn't repeat)

What's wrong with my phone? Is there anything I can do without taking my phone to one of these 'Service Centers'? And do I have to be a member of this 'Club Nokia' to have free repairment?

I had the same problem and have just sorted it after much stress...

right...here goes...

at the same time as holding down the following keys, turn the phone on

"Dial Key, * Key and 3 Key"

Doesn't work... My 7610's keyboard might be a little unresponsive but I tried so many times that it doesn't work. How long does it take when I should see the "formatting" text?
I'll leave my phone for repairment today.

The procedure should work, but it does take some dexterity (or three hands).

In any case, turn the phone off. Then press the three keys down and keep them down (you may need two hands to do it). Then use your (or borrow it) third hand to turn the phone on (while still keeping all the three keys down). You can release the power key hand, but leave the other hands on the three keys until the formatting starts.

Well, gave it to experts hands, let them take care of it. Now I have to live with 3310, a really luxorious phone! But only for a short period, I'm already missing my 7610

Reformatting does not need a new firmware. All that's needed for that is on the phone already.
