Am I correct in believing that every personal ring tone I assign, whether wave or .rng, is copied to internal memory?

Thanks

No it doesn't, so if you keep it on the MMC and remove the MMC it all reverts to the default settings. Which sucks quite a bit.

Does the same apply to pictures? I've noticed that if I delete the pictures from my Memory Card, they stay in the Contacts book (I like the pictures gimick - I know lots of peautiful people )

The contacts are all stored in one file contacts.cdb. I'm assuming that the picrures are stored in it as well, but I dont know that for a fact. It would seem likely though.

For things like ringtones, it references them wherever you out them on your device. I'd recommend if you do chnage MMC reguarly to keep them all on the C drive (only the ones you use - they hardly take any space).
