Red face 6680 Images Disappearing - Nokia said not a known fault

hi guys,

just been on the phone to Nokia re: images disappearing from the 6680 (twice)...they said it is NOT a known fault and dont have a fix for it...they suggested to me to take it back to the dealer (who is internet based) or the SP (3 in this case).

based on what i have seen here, it seems to be a common problem...

do you know if there is a fix and where can I get it?

Many thanks in advance.

Danny.

Get a new memory card. Hasn't happened to me with a Kingston DV RS-MMC card (256MB).

Hey, That happened to me, not just my images though, all of my media files, i just done a soft reboot - turn off for 5 mins then turn back on, like magic they came back. Might be the memory card though, i'm just using the one that came with the phone

hi dannywu

it is the memory card that causes this problem...

i also rang nokia who said the dont know the problem so i took my memory card back to car phone warehouse and swopped it for another and have had no files deleting themselves as of yet..........

what gets me is that i explained to nokia that before my pictures deleted themselves the icons had cracks through them (see pic) yet nokia have never heard of this, yet surely the phone would not display an icon with a crack through it unless it was in the phones programming to do so.........

anyway........

just ring em and tell em its a known fault and ask if they will swap memory card......

good luck

Sounds like something in the phone hardware or software is corrupting the card. Please keep us posted! Anyone had this happen with the 6630, or is it just the 6680 which has this problem?

Some of the mem.cards are faulty. I work in a retail store and we recived an e-mail from nokia saying that certain cards are faulty and need to be replaced..
I don't know for sure but I think that A300509 -> A300518 are faulty.

I'l check the e-mail saturday and edit if I posted the wrong series!

i had the same the phone just switched itself off then restartes everything had gone photos apps the lot that was on the card, then it came up iwth memorycard corrupted ive had the phone 7weeks so back to the shop where they just formatted it and gave it back to me, i could have done that but i didnt want to touch coz of the warrenty so i demanded a new memory card bearing in mind i live in spain they we not happy. i refused to leave until i got one. and i did get a new card. but hope it dont happen again. they said it was a virus doubt it as i have antvirus on the phone that shut them up. i come to conclusion that most people that sell phones do not read up on what they are selling and how they work

Ditto.

My mate's 6630 got corrupt and he lost EVERYTHING! I'm talking even photos on the phone. He was well upset. As for the MMC prob, I tried phoning Nokia too and they said they don't know wnything about it. I had an orange 6680 and now I have a Three 6680 and it's happened to me on BOTH! So it's definately Nokia's problem and not the service provider!

I think there are problems with the memory cards. I have several original nokia memory cards and when you put them in the phone and attempt to format them, they wont format. Yet you cant access the card memory on the phone. However, i can format them if i put them in a non s60 handset. Once formatted elsewhere however, they seem to work fine again. I have the latest software version on my 6680.

I lost all my pictures once, but OK since (1 week).

I noticed when I reviewed the images in the gallery, the thumbnails had reverted to a default but the filenames were still there. The next time I looked they had disappeared completely.

I accessed the MMC from the USB reader and the filesystem looked normal and I don't think anything else was corrupted.

Sounds like a firmware bug to me!
