Databases as far as the eye can see

You wait ages for a good Nokia 9500 database and then two come along at once. EpocWare's Power Data 3.0 and Yellow's YData should see most users right. Power Data is more for database pros and YData should serve the average user better. Get downloading!

Yes, I couldn't get on with it at all. YData's pretty impressive, and quite close to Psion Data in some ways.

I'll make sure I include SmallBase in my big database review roundup, coming to an AllAbout site near you in a few weeks time..... 8-)

Yes, as complicated as I thought. With a little more development, I think YData is the one for most people. The moment these apps start talking about multiple table views on the same data, a grey mist comes down in front of my eyes.

I think if u can use ms access, sb should be simple, but think i will play with the other 2 as well some time over the weekend. You neva know.
I just wish epec where could improve the databank app for UIQ, cause it really really sucks.

Got it in the hope that with people buying it they would improve on it, no luck. Oh well.

Yep, EpocWare don't seem too inclined to fix bugs in their software, in my experience. Must be something to do with Symbian Signed - having to pay again every time, just to fix a bug, is a real disincentive! 8-(

MS Access? - an utterly horrible application for any non-professional to use. 99% of people just want a database to catalogue a collection or keep track of something. Access is the proverbial sledgehammer, etc.

Cool

I myself used Psion's Data a lot on my Psion netBook and found it missing in the newer Symbian devices (the closest is Epocware's Handy Databank in which, it did what I need it to do i.e. simple database of my cd collection, movies that I watch, important SMSes etc), but recently there's this application called YData released by YellowComputing (who released YFTP and YEdit as well as a few other high quality Symbian apps).

Looking at the descriptions and screenshots, YData is the closest resemblance of Psion Data on Symbian Series 80.

YData

Psion's Data

I havent really tried it yet coz still saving money to buy 9500 ;-) Can someone who has a 9500 cum Psion user confirms this?

Angry Databases

I tried all three (Powerdata, smallbase and ydata), and none of them are a patch on the original Psion database app. Basically the user interface of the Psion app was perfect, and the others all get in the way. And I managed to crash two of them just while testing them. And Powerdata can't import csv files properly (when there's a newline in the data). Sigh. Do I really have to rewrite the Psion app myself?

Have searched and searched for a version of the Psion Data to use on the Nokia 9300, but none come close. Psion had it right on the view, speed and accuracy of their find, and the ability to password files. Wish Nokia would just hire the Psion programmers and tell them to place the Revo software on their phone. But, since they probably won't, please, please, please rewrite the Psion app.......somebody....

and while at it, find a way to ensure we can view, amend and sync the data with our computer desktop....

and rewrite the Psion Jotter and Spell app while u r at it.......

Well I've been using PowerData 3.1 for awhile it came with the Nokia Essesenaials package.

But when I am making a databases, I selected blank and added my own fields, I select memo and with the default 50k size, and after I type in a few lines of text it all looks good.
But after I am done with that entry and do a new one, or to look/preview at the just completed one, the text is cut off on the right hand side of the screen, this is with full screen turned on or off.

The unit has been totally powered down after the install of the program, and the battery removed. This still did not solve the problem. Uninstall and reinstall also.

I have managed to use it in the list view with a different font and it seems ok, but I'm wondering what version is out there now? anybody know?

Below is a little pic of where the text keeps vanishing, as you can see the grey dots for the lines do not go as far as others. . .
