I couldn't tell from the site whether this was compatible with the P800, certainly the picture didn't show an SE connector.

I have seen things like this for other Ericsson phones. Since three of the four Ericsson/SE phones I've had have had exactly the same connectors on the bottom (and the first phone was ages ago), I presume something that would fit one would fit all.

It's also possible to get a wind-up emergency charger, but your arm would get pretty tired if you needed to talk much, it takes a minute of winding for four minutes talk.

BTW I cannot resist asking what the connection is between Zippy and the P800 - I presume there is one judging by the file name.

judging by the picture it does not look like a p800 but at the top of the page it says it is for the p800.
i downloaded zippy from a p800 site and i guess zippy' was customized as a wallpaper for it. :P

Doh! I didn't see that fairly small title.

I might get one of these to put in my laptop bag. I wouldn't want to carry it around all the time in my pocket, but somewhere like in the already heavy laptop bag or in the car might come in very handy.

I wonder why one should use the charger with a 9V block???

Have you ever looked at the 9V block compared to the charger. The charger output is at 5V so the 9V aren't of any use. One other thing is that 9V blocks only have a capacity of 350mA at best because they are built for high voltage output not for capacity.

A combination of 4 AA or 4 AAA batteries offer a voltage of 4.8V and a capacity of up to 8000mA (AA) or 3200mA (AAA). Those chargers are common in the PDA-world. Just put in 4 batteries and you get 3!!! full charges out of the pack instead of the quarter charge a 9V will deliver.

So why a 9V block???

I had one of these for my P800 (carphone warehouse sell them in the UK) - I thought it would be great to keep on my keyring and use as a top up charger when I went away for a few days and didn't wan't to take a charger.

I tested it and saw that it did charge the phone but very sloooowly (in an hour or two it was about 20% charged) - I don't think you would get more than about 50% charge with it but it would still be enough as a top up for a few days.

A few weeks later (after living in my pocket) I needed to use it and it didn't work! The coneector end is menat to swivel around and I think the connections had been broken. So beware to treat them gently if you get one!

My guess is that the 9v batteries are smaller and lighter than 4 AA batteries. These things do work so I presume that the voltage is converted.

I don't think you can really expect a full charge out of these things - they are for an emergency.

Nevertheless, something I saw in the shop I bought my P800 was a little lightweight box of chemicals that would give two full charges. I suppose it was a battery of sorts since all they do is produce a current out of a chemical reaction, but it was pretty light. I wanted to buy one as they had a special offer on and they were only a fiver but they didn't have any Ericsson compatible ones left. I haven't seen them since.

This place has a charger that uses 4 AA batteries.
It claims you get 2-3 charges out of one set of rechargeable batteries.
Great for a long trip.
