N97 to fill the gap until E90 successor?
I love my E90. I love that it's a phone that thinks it's a tiny laptop! I've never understood the smaller-is-better ethos and in truth wish my E90 was BIGGER than it is. But I'm also itching to upgrade and, other than its regrettably even smaller size and awful keyboard, the N97 is certainly the best choice at the moment. So here's the thing; is there a more serious E90 successor ANYWHERE on the horizon, or is it actually the case that by the time there is 18 more months will have passed by anyway, so I could get the N97 now for the interim?

In Between
N97 is a nice machine . Touch and minimal qwerty , however very usefull when thumb-typing . Very soon also the E72 will be in the shops : interesting specs , long batterylife , qwerty
Strong rumors tell the N900 is coming . Successor of N810 , with Phone ! But OS is Maemo , however not really a disavantage .

Many thanks for that. I'm afraid the E72 seems much more like a Blackberry than a Communicator. The E900 does look intreaguing, however as it's still only "rumoured", how long will it be in development before it's actually available for purchase? From rumour to high street, the N97 took almost a year. Is the E900 likely to take a similar period, do you think? In which case the N97 is still the best interim device.

Interim
The choice is yours of course ! When you consider the time it took between the launches of the last communicators , about 3 years , next commi will be due late 2009 or maybe even middle 2010 .
"Nobody knows but your manufactor..." . Here are two speculation links :

I personally would like the N97 as a Interim . But be aware of coming firmwareupdates , because of bugs etc . So keep your trustfully , mature E90 as standby !

For the possibly long interim!
Thanks again jApi NL. Yeah, I think we're on the same wavelength here, and I'm grateful for the URLs. I expect I'll get an N97 next week (I've been due an upgrade since March) and will keep my eyes and ears peeled for the N900 (or whatever eventually comes out), hopefully upgrading to it next time round - or the time after that! My concern was to be sure that I wasn't going to find out about an amazing new communicator a week after commiting to an N97, but now I'm happy that that won't be the case and can buy my "interim device" without concern!
Cheers,
Aidan

i doubt that n97 could fill the gap.
I accept that i am a fan of previous series of communicators excepting the 9500 failure.
I went today in nokia store and I wondered about the price of e90= 300 eur>>>>>1/2 price of n97
N97 is a great device, young, fresh, excellent toutch, feel design and size.
But, does not play in the communicators category.
The reasons i doubt n97 can fill a gap are:
No full qwerty and punctuation keys
Dificult to enter symbols ex; j*st try entering i wi*l g% cr£@t!v£ end you will understand>>>>
Not so powerfull in multitasking device as e90
Poor rapid access to important app keys (sure, they can be accessed but not like app keys on a commi) cimpared to 1 single click
Smaller device in size (oh I still enjoy sometimes the good old 9210 of mine )
Weak calendar and messaging built in app
Cheap plastic and unfinished design (i could not remove the battery without helping sharp tools)
Fragile constitution of case (cannot last minimum 2 years of heavy usage)
I think i put some reason why this n97 cannot fill a gap because there it is not a gap>>>

I completely agree with you. When I finally got to "meet" an N97 I too was dissapointed. So instead I've just made a bold move. Today I jumped ship from both my network providor and phone OS. I've just ordered an HTC Touch Pro 2 (runs Windows - shock horror!) on Vodafone business. The tariff and cost is better than I was paying at O2 for my E90, and the TP2 itself poops on the N97 from a great hight. I even believe that the FIVE ROW qwerty keyboard may be half decent as well. I may regret this deeply, but so far I think/hope/prey I'm onto a winner.

Interesting Choice
Wish you good luck . When you don't mind a Camera without Flash and don't use GPS , an interesting choice . However because of qwerty , you could maybe reconsider towards the E75

Well I certainly don't mind the camera. I almost never use the camera on my E90 at the moment. For me it's a business tool for email, web and phone calls - camera not necessary.
I'm not sure what you mean about GPS. The TP2 is fully supported there.
And I'm afraid the tiny little qwerty keyboard on the E75 can't hold a candle to that on the TP2!

Form + GPS
I like the formfactor of the TP too . Qwerty ! Big Screen ! About GPS : the TP 1 , I know there is a "fix" problem . When I am sitting in the house , my E90 gets a fix within 30 sec . My nephew is running around in the yard , with the newest firmware installed , trying to get a fix on his TP 1 . Including A-GPS . For navigating he uses a separate Tom Tom . That why I have some doubt .
