The N95 8GB gets v30 too!

v30 firmware is now online in Nokia Software Update for the N95 8GB too. This follows the update for the N95 classic on Friday. Approximate changelow below, more during the day, no doubt.... The usual caveats about backing up/syncing and insuring your house apply. Contents may settle in transit, and so forth....

Read on in the full article.

there were also some rumours about fp2 (transitions) in a future firmware upgrade for the n95 8gb. Any news on that so far? (wont be upgrading myself until later today)

the other updates include

1)Realplayer supports FLV format (i.e FLV files can be played directly like MP4)
2)Icon animation is working bot no FP2 transition effects available
3)Incoming call number is displayed in additon to name of the contact.
4)New visualizations in Music player

hey guys, not going to be updating till later today or tomorrow, however I saw on another forum that people were reporting issues with the N95-1 V30 firmware. Saying that there was a bug with the camera, plus other 'old' issues returning...

Anyone who has updated as well as posting any fixes/enhancements can you mention any issues you have found please?

Cheers

Insure your house

Insure your house, indeed. What gets me wound up is that each time a firmware upgrade is done, half the apps dissapear or don't work afterwards -- even using the back-up service in PC Suite.

Kind of puts me off doing it.

Just as a warning to N-Gage users.

N-gage doesn't cope well with firmware updates. For me N-Gage didn't work after the usual post-firmware restores. It wouldn't install anything.

It still didn't work when I reset everything (wiping internal and mass memory). Games install did not work.

In the end I re-installed the N-gage client which seemed to work OK (but rather defeats the point of having it in firmware).

Of course your mileage may vary. See - http://arena.n-gage.com/nokia/board/...hread.id=16824

At the very least you need to re-install all your games - not good at all. Handsets with UDP should be OK though.

For what it's worth, N-Gage worked OK here, in that the client's ok and retrieving keys for games already bought worked too.

Restore

In my situation the handset would not restore from backup, it went through the motions but could not reboot, forcing me to do a systems reset (* 3 green button) whilst powering on.

As ever, restoring from a full backup is always a bit dangerous, since you're mixing system files from different OS versions. So worth a try, but I usually find that 30 mins re-syncing data and reinstalling apps produces something much cleaner and more likely to work.

application back-up

If you installed apps direct to your handset, how do you store them on your PC to restore manually once the firmware update is done? Thanks.

Does this upgrade work for vodafone branded phones or is it just for the lucky ones with sim free or unbranded firmware?

After the last update (note: with NO Content Copier restore), my N95 8GB stopped saving passwords in the web browser, easily one of my most-used features... so hopefully they've fixed that bug. I'm not holding my breath, tho'.
