Question where do i go from here!

I have this as a project to do. Dont have any symbian c++ experience and have just started to look into the symbian OS and series 60 platform. If there are any of you out there that could give me a few pointers in the right direction it would be really appreciated. so what do you think..

"Modern smartphones are not subject to the same resource constraints that previous generations of phones were. Users have less incentive to engage in resource cleanups, such as deleting text messages. The goal of this project is to build a socially appealing application that exploits knowledge of the user's frequency of interaction with acquantances and intimate friends using text messages. Artificial intelligence techniques will be used to build models that can inform users of the temporal and qualatitive distribution of SMS contact with friends. The application has the potential to empower users with empirical evidence that "you used to care about me when you first met me". The project requires good C++ and Java programming skills and will be based on both the Symbian platform and MIDP 2.0 platforms."

This actually is my final year project and i want to start asap. I have come across applications that query the phonebook database etc today but cant find any info on parsing sms messages or anything like that. any feedback would be great. The call register can be used to the same effect i presume also.
