I had the same problem as you have described. I too had to take it to a Nokia repairer to get a reset done. Though Nokia seemed to have "no idea" what had caused the problem, I have the feeling it was caused by the 'alert for' feature. If you follow- the only profile that would not work was one that I had set to only alert for certain groups. These groups however had since been removed during a Sync with my Macintosh iBook. I am fairly sure this was the problem as I repeated the same process as before (created the offending profile- all worked fine- then i deleted one of my caller groups which that profile was set to alert for and BOOM! appclosed profileapp.) I took it back to Nokia- and they reset it again- still scratching there heads.
I have not tried it again as it is annoying to return it to Nokia all the time. Please- bring on the firmware upgrade Nokia!

If they dun even know wat was the cause, how to solve it with firmware upgrade? Perhaps u should share with Nokia....

You are right. Every time I do something, that REMOVES names from groups or deletes groups makes the phone crash, if you have set the profile to accept only calls from certain contacts.
That usually happnes if I do a complete re-sync in iSync.
