So, have any1 tried a snes/gba emulator on the N97?
Can't find any videos or posts about it. would be awesome if it works.
Snes emulator on N97?
bump.
No, but I did find a MAME port for 5800 that may work on the N97.
Just added it to my site - but I've not tested it yet as I need to dig out my ROMS.
VBAGX works fine on the N97 - except you will need to redefine the keys so that it uses something else other than the right soft key as the "exit" button. works beautifully in full screen and pretty cool playing GBA stuff on it.
ah, nice about the MAME and GBA!
Does the GBA run in full speed with sound? let me know if u put a video of GBA on the N97 on youtube 😊
How do you redefine keys and make it full screen in vBagX? Thanks.
so i imagine this would not work on a 5800 as it doesnt have any physical keys to map to? that would be great if there' s a work around, OTHER than using a bluetooth keyboard! 😊
"Im planning to add touch support for phones with capacitive touch (Samsungs i8910). Hopefully there will be more 5th edition phones with capacitive touch in the future.."
might work on 5800. Guess the problem will be the CPU on 5800.
I got Picodrive working fine on my N97.
vBagX is problematic - apparently you can hold the menu key while in-game and press the 'cancel' softkey to get the vBag menu up, to redefine the keys. This hasn't worked for me though, it just locks up and eats all the RAM, even after it's closed.
I also tried AntSNES, which didn't work properly either.

Install VBAG on your N97
Attach your N97 in Mass Storage mode and do a search on where you installed VBAG for a file called VBAG.cfg (its in the Private\20010F59 folder or somewhere)
replace this file with the attached.
This basically is the direction pad for normal direction, the select button as select, start = q, select = w, L button = I, R button = O, A button = K, B Button = L and finally ENTER is the equivalent of the right soft key (go back in the menus). Also, it runs the game in full screen.
@bchliu
Thanks a lot mate!
Does the GBA run in full speed with sound for those who have tried it?

There is no vbag.cfg file on my phone. Can you tell me exactly where it should go? Thanks.
Edit: I couldn't get vbag to recognise the cfg file. But I did manage to get the menu to show by going to task manager during a game, then returning to vbag. Eventually the menu loaded and I could assign new keys.
Anyone know if there's an N64 emulator around for S60?
jamessmith01 wrote:Anyone know if there's an N64 emulator around for S60?
No there isnt. Besides if there is, the N97 (without 3D Hardware) wouldnt be able to render it well anyway as most N64 emulators are all OpenGL based (but I'd think it will work well on N95 however!)
Regarding the VBAG config - sounded like you had it running and wasnt closed off properly in the background already if you needed Task Manager to switch to it. Shouldnt need to do that normally. The config file should just go into that folder under the private folder and should be cool from there.

I wonder about the same thing. Sound is not that important to me, but it would be great to be able to play gba games while on the bus. I would appreciate it if anyone with a N97 could confirm this😊
Cheers

Works fine for me! Started on Super Mario World again last night 😊

with sound? pretty important for me 😊
The sound is a bit wonky.. but yes, it does run full screen at full speed. 😊
It is very impressive to see that actually.. since you basically have a super big screen game boy advance
Yep the sound works, as bchliu said it does get stuttery at times, but mostly okay and definitely playable. Got a 2.5-hour train journey tonight - great excuse for some old school gaming 😊
would love to hear more about the emulators on N97. If ill buy a Iphone 3Gs or Nokia N97 pretty much depends on this 😊.
3Gs is lots faster but i rly want buttons.
With vBag and vSun, wow many FPS do you run with, with sound enabled?
A video of this would be awesome.

hi guys
long time browser 1st time poster :P
it took me quite a while but i finally got snes, nes (not tht il use it) gb (same agen  ) and gba working on my n97
to say the fone has stil got its problems ..(im in the UK still running sucky v11.) the software runs fine in my honest opinion.
firstly to clear the air abt my self ;
understand, i had both gbc and snes running on my last s60 v3, the 3250 (twisty bottom1) i played pokemon crystal and chrono trigger
i hav played chrono like 7 times strictly on emulators ( tho never completed it {hopefully this time around} cudnt on the 3650 becoz of the bit wer u hav to chase the rat using 2 buttons pressed was 2 hard on tht fone.. )
running vsun, vsunPlus and vbagx on my n97 is a pretty solid endevour. once u optimise the settings (speed {leaving this on auto runs the snes faster than running at 60fps} frameskips etc) the games run fine. the fullscreen is great, emerald is really vibrant and iv had to lower frameskip just to enjoy the game abit more
for the past 2 nights iv played chrono trigger and pokemon emerald whilst listenin to the tracks on my fone. this does cause abit of trouble, namely while trying to multitask with the game running and changing tracks a few too often will cause the fone shut down apps and tell me i have low memory. another thing is u cant necessarily pause the game and tend to sumthing else such as a text message as doin so will release the rom and wen u go bak to the emulator it will display the rom list.
vsun runs sound fine. as the games run at a fast speed neway running them with sound jus lowers the speed a little which is fine by me but i dont use in game sound i jus listen to my own stuff..
i think the version of vsun is a older release as the save state dusnt quite save. (annoyin seen as how i trained chrono up quite abit til 4 int morn)
the versions of the emulators i used i found shared on a rapidshare site, wer cracked and wer from a few yrs ago. simple.
hope this gives a good insight. by the way ne games u recommend? iv got super mario, smash tv, chrono trigger, pokemon emerald...🙄
I managed to get vsun 1.15 working today with sound, just before I went to work. A restart of the phone did the job.Tested it with Bubsy the Bobcat and Donkey Kong Country. I am using an N95 though.
I had to add the .smc extension to the rom to get it working, zipping did not do it.
Super Mario World here I come and Zelda A link to the past. 😃
Here's a guide to getting all Vampent's Nintendo Emulators working on the Nokia N97 (and other Symbian 5th Ed. devices with hardware QWERTY keyboards):
Nintendo Emulation on Symbian ^1 and the Nokia 97
You can play every Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Game Boy, GBC and Game Boy Advance game that there's a ROM for 😊 The best use I've had for the N97's QWERTY and D-pad so far...
There's a video, too:
