Ovi Mail moves one step closer to GMail?

Nokia's Ovi Mail just moved one step closer to other popular webmail systems by adding better message formatting, auto-URL creation and auto-complete for contact emails. There's still no integration with Ovi Contacts though (i.e. the module with your actual contact details in), so consider this still very much a beta.

I guess its still far-far away from gmail :(

However it might not be the main aim to compete in field of the web interface. In that aspect, Google is just unbeatable. I guess the OVI mail web interface has only an auxiliary function to the mobile mail service. As Nokia stated many times, this service is mainly for the users, who's only internet access is through their mobiles. This users are mainly in the developing countries.
If Nokia wanted to have more customers for its OVI mail service in the developed countries, then the web interface should be improved dramatically and additional services should be also developed (IMAP, POP3, 3rd party add-ons like FF add-ons, etc.)

I'm accessing my Ovi email account through Outlook 2007 (IMAP)

feels like it is coming along nicely. As soon as it integrates with the contacts stored on ovi, it will be ready to recommend to people looking for a nice mailing system. I wish they would converge contacts with all parts of ovi (sync, contacts, share, mail etc.) in one go, though...

I was very surprised to find that there was no integration with Contacts. I would have expected that to have been available at launch. Also, I can do without the advertisements at the bottom of each outgoing message. I'd pay a reasonable premium to be rid of those.

no forwarding??

seems like the old fortress mentality... makes it rather useless, for me at least.
