Battery life is top priority to 38% of users

Nokia Conversations recently ran a poll asking what's more important than battery life? Yesterday, they published their results with the largest segment of users, 38%, voting for the 'Nothing' option. The runner-up choice was Connectivity, with 25% of the vote. Multimedia capabilities took third place with 17% of the vote. Read on for more commentary.

Absolutely true... Todays devices give us so many things to run on them like videos, chatting, surfing, push email, GPS, camera but hardly enough juice for the device to sustain. Most of the devices need a daily recharge or even a mid day recharge. And this is a issue with all brands, across the board.
Wish the battery technologies evolve for us to be able to have compact batteries that have (atleast) 2-3 times the current batteries' power.

Battery life OK, but most phones can survive a day between charges. I want phones that can connect in fringe areas. Or networks that are available more. Great having all these connected features, but worthless is the connection is gone.

Performance of the RF capability.

Another reason why the non replaceable battery on the N8 doesn't appeal to me. Its easy to carry a spare charged battery if 240 or 12v isn't available and at 10 quid for the 1900 mAh BP-4L copy its a cheap option to double battery life
Victory of design over function or just Nokia blindly following Apple's mistakes?

Daft survey

I don't believe you can read too much into these results, the question/options weren't well formulated. The way the results came out implies that 38% of people are happy to have an extra hour of use of a phone without any connectivity, no multimedia, postage stamp screen and carry a device the size of a cow.

Just to copy and paste my comment from that site onto here (hope that's OK):

Trouble is the poll only offered the options you editors chose. It didnít allow a section for users to suggest their own alternatives.

Given these poll results it only goes to support the view that it should be possible to insert a spare battery Ė this can double the useful life of the phone between charges (or triple etc depending on how many spares one wants to carry). The N8 is clearly an issue here. I am not against the reasons why Nokia have made the N8 battery non replaceable Ė I see itís a tricky compromise between case size, protecting the electronics and reducing return rates, but I sincerely hope that some enterprising third party makes a replacement end piece for the N8 that has push in clips in place of screws so that swift battery replacement is possible.

There is currently a real issue with the N8 if one is out all day away from a power source and doing videoing, pictures, GPS, sports tracking, browsing, you name it, and the battery runs out.

Someone pry the E71 from my fingers. It's ugly and old fashioned, but damn, it's got stamina! Twice as much as the C97 Mini I gave up. Big question is: can the N8 keep up with the iphone4? How about C7?

I'm not surprised by the results. Smart phones are great but what's the point if the battery only lasts 1 or 2 days?

I guess battery technology needs to catch up.

1 or 2 days!!! forget it the E71 i get 1 and a half with mail for exchange running for 10 hours, the p910i gave me 2 days but every other smartphone i've ever owned had to be charged daily at the very least.

iON BatteryTimer shows 1d on my e72

On average my new e72 shows 1 day on average (using Battery Timer). With Android G1 or iPhone was even worse... thats why I took old fashioned nokia for mountain trips... (it keeps even week!!!)

E71

It Dependes on what you want.

I have an e71 for work, it lasts 4 days, and it is 18months old, now. It is one of the best phones for work ever fashioned.

My n900 on the other hand needs a charge everyday, but I abuse it as a computer, playing videos, using internet and calling without worrying about battery.

For my n900 battery life is not an issue, but my e71 has saved me sometimes, and for it battery life is as important as it gets. Not mentioning the fact it is indestructible.
