| Scratched lens |
Thought users would be interested in the below linked article ... I don't think this is a small problem as there must be a large percentage of N97 users who value the camera on this phone. Would you share your thoughts on this? I too have noticed some scratching on my phone that I have only owned for just over one week and am curious to know what Nokia's response will be.

the screen
Hi Steve, I much value your work. Here is a question, is it just me or the screen seems rather pixelated ? Well, not just pixelated but I can see some diagonal lines with the screen both on and off. Quite dissapointed with the overall quality of the display. Thank you for your answer and best regards.

Led flash washes out left side of photo
Dear Steve,
When I took photo with my new N97 with LED flash on automatically, the pictures turned out quite bad. The left side of the photo showed whitish like smokes. the right side is clear and has nice colour. Why is this so? Is my N97 camera faulty? Thanks.

The n97 is junk
Ive been using my N97 for about a week now. Im having numerous problems with the phone. The phones firmware is obviously rushed and slopped together. Im a dedicated Nokia fan, but Im having major regrets especially after getting the run around by customer support from nokia. They want a 15% restocking fee to swap the phone for a working one (aka $105 + return shipping). Read some of the problems on the support discussion before you buy an N97 www.nokia.com/support

None N97 date and time screensaver
Hi Steve,
I just bought the new N97. Could not find any screensaver which tells profile, time and date as found in Nseries such as N85 etc. The screen just goes blank after keypad was locked. How do I get the time and date screensaver into N97? Thanks Steve.

N97
Steve - have you noticed a light leak at the bottom/right of the screen where the media key is. Also on mine the screen at "Youtube Broadcast" header at top the "...cast" fades in color - have you noticed that either? wondering if it is just my unit. thank you.

Part 3 is down to Rafe 8-)
Who, in his defense, has been pre-occupied working on the N86 review... patience, grasshopper....

Has part 3 of this review fallen by the wayside? Enjoyed the first 2 parts, was hoping the rest would have been forthcoming before the release

Nokia N97 US Version, I got it last Friday
Nokia N97 US Version, I got it last Friday and I am total disappointed now. The first I have set up my email accounts and it is working all day in the background. Then I have installed NIMBUZZ to stay in contact with my friends how are using all on different messengers. This application also works all day in the background. The location-tagger is also active. The last application how is permanently active is Total Recall v. 3.3! If I get a phone call or start now the navigation or music player the phone shuts down and reboot. I have to turn off some off the applications first.
I have a 8GB SanDisk MicroSD memory card (Class 6) from BestBuy and around 3GB is in use. On this card are the Nokia Maps North America (Canada, US, Mexico) and around 1 ½ GB 192KB MP3's saved. That's really not much. I have taken quick some pictures (~30) and try to upload them to my OVI account. The Nokia N97 needs around 5 minutes to find the saved pictures on the memory card.
I will send mine Nokia N97 back to the shop. I am not happy with the Nokia N97 and will continue using my Nokia e71.

Once again, N97 got beat by iphone 3Gs hardware. Why are the developers of Iphone always manage to think ahead and beat the developers of Nokia every time?? Serious, the Iphone has bout 600Mhz processor and 256MB of RAM...it is way way faster than Nokia N97 400+Mhz and 128MB of RAM. And as i was watching the videos of Nokia N97...the phone looks nice and has great design and everything, BUT it is obvious there is a delay in processing. This is a BIG NO NO for me because i like when things are instant. I want things to load it up as soon as i press that button...i don't want to even wait for 1 SEC!!! A hardware like N97 with so much stuffs in it...you would thunk that the developers would give you a powerful processor so that it makes thing run smoother. But NO...Nokia is once again getting beat by Iphone 3GS!!
If anything N97 has over Iphone at this point is the 5Megapixel camera..that's it!!

Uh, what about "real" multi-tasking. You may want things to be immediate, but I would quite like one app to stay open when I switch to another one, something that the iPhone still can not do (AFAIK). And unless you have managed to use both an iPhone 3GS and an N97, you can hardly say that one is beating the other. And don't forget, one of the iPhone's 3GS' main claims to fame is that you can now do Copy&Paste; wow, like it's only taken 2 years...
Mind you, putting the space-bar way over on the right is completely stupid, and totally unnnecessary.

A lot of people in Emerging Markets (and I live in one) don't really care about advanced features: for example, if they can record video in HD or not, just the fact that the N97 can film video and is going to be like $100 cheaper than the competition will make their mind. The same people that won't distinguish why an OMAP3 would be better than OMAP2.

That's a real nice post from someone who is properly switched on. For 90% of people 90% of the functionality of a smartphone is not needed. Smartphones are packed full of solutions to problems that don't exist, just waiting for the anal retentives to convince themselves that they need them. Some smartphones are superficially decorated with flouncy gimmickry which turns them into borderline toys.
Nokia have executed the N97 very well. It's a cheap to make device that will give most people (yes MOST people, not a few enthusiasts) the impression its something more advanced. They will make some good margin off the early adopters. Then the price will track down, just as all the other phones do, and at the end of it all Nokia will have a tasty profit.
Now ask yourselves, what are Nokia in business for? Is it:
a. To make a load of cash?
b. To please a few nit-picking geeks and nurds?
Damn good business Nokia. I won't be buying one though. Perhaps in 12 months when they are cheap on Ebay.

And form factor, proper keyboard, better multi-tasking OS (that's OS not UI), multi-network access, credibility.
I wouldn't buy an N97 though, nor would I buy an iPhone. Both awful.
