Hands on experience on N97
After owning the N95-3, I was extremely excited to get the N97. This phone exceeds some of my expectation and there are only few flaws that I 've discovered so far and I will mention here.
Dual Speaker quality is extremely poor as comapred to my N95. Speaker sounds muffled and no matter how I setup the sound in the Eq setting, I'm unable to get the sound that is as crisp and clear as my N95 speakers. However when hooked up to an external speaker, sound quality is about the same as N95.
Camera extended digital zoom is misssing on N97, as compared to N95. Camera lens is a bit different on N97 (2.8/5.4), N95 (2.8/5.6). I think nokia missed on this function. on N95, Extended zoom is achieved using the circuitry and I hope that this function can be added to N97 through a update. So for time being I need to physically move closer to the subject to achieve the extended zoom. Photo quality is still great with N97. One improvement is the correct zooming button orientation on the N97. To "zoom in" on N95 you push down. To zoom in on N97 you push up( similar to the sound volume , up for increase, down for decrease.
I ve had hands on experience with the iphone, Samsung and Sony touch screen models. N97 screen speed so far is the fastest. N97 Web limitattions still needs to be worked out. I used the Skyfire on my N95 and was able to get web pages playing the flash videos. No video flashs on N97, yet. and Web zooming requires few touchs on the screen. I wished that they could use the iphone zooming function which is done with 1 touch on the screen.
If you are seeking a touch screen smart phone and you need a phone that is extremely easy to function (as oppose to iphone), N97 will be excellent choice.

For me this is important, this handset is big on internet connection but can you output it's connection (via bluetooth i guess) to a nearby laptop? (either the connection of the web page viewed)
Thus access of any online video (sky account in my case) can be viewed via the phones connection on the lap top, so thus the screen is bigger for viewing.
I was gonna get a new phone and a dongle, but could this handset work as both?
Many Thanks.

IINM, you're talking about 'tethering' and all Nokia S60 phones can do this. IINM, Maemo devices also work. I don't know about S40 though.
I think it works via bluetooth (not 100% on that), but certainly using USB.
On a Microsoft OS, you probably need to install the PC or OVI Suite.
On Ubuntu Linux (Jaunty), it just works...just plug it in and select 'PC Suite' on your phone, then a 'wizard' will open on your desktop to allow you to select your Service Provider (so that it sets the correct TCP/IP settings).
I've not tried the N97, but I would be amazed if it didn't do this? I mean, what modern phone can't do tethering?

Facebook widget problem
Hi. I would like to ask you something about the N97. It was like this. I was using Handy Task and I noticed that there was this app running behind called APIbridge. It raised suspicion as I do not know what that running behind.
Therefore, without much research, I quickly uninstalled that programme, only to find out not long, that it was used to run the Facebook widget. And since, I have been unable to log in through the Facebook widget.
Can you advise me on what I should do next?
Should I hard reset the phone (will the application go back to the same)?
Or do you know where I can rectify the problem?
Thanks a lot for your help. I really appreciate it.
Best regards,
Jon

Newer S60 phones from Nokia have the, so called, User Data Preservation (UDP) support, where a firmware upgrade will no longer wipe out user data.

New firmware and reinstalling apps
When installing new firmware do you (as with N95) have to reinstall everything that you use that is not included with the firmware. eg such as y browser etc. What about settings do you have to spend hours re inputting your prefered settings (with N95 the settings wizard caused more probs than it solved)
Thanks

Sms export
I have been using SMS Export from S60.com for years now.
It's one of the free exclusive utilities that members get. I use it to export SMSs from my Inbox to any destination folder in text format, so that I can easily transfer the exported SMS to PC, PDA or to another phone via Bluetooth/Cable. It is integral to my work.
Will it work on the Nokia N97? Can someone try using it on n97 and then let me know?

Memory and applications
Can you go to Application manager and see if most applications are installed to Phone/RAM memory (128MB)? My thought is to see if it is possible to uninstall those applications that can be installed again, separately, but to Mass memory (32GB), thus freeing up the valuable RAM memory. 46MB of free memory simply won't cut it for me...
