Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is iPhone Killer
Yes, People seeing Nokia 5800 as an iPhone killer. You get same features in less price.
You can see feature comparioson between both the devices here-

And don't forget the price!
Here in Germany, the 5800 comes at € 329,- without contract, which is about half of the price of an iPhone without contract.
IMHO, it has been a very good idea, not directly competing with the iPhone in it's premium price segment, but offering it in the usual smart phone price range.
Considering the better camera, battery, video recording option, micro SD slot and the maturity of the base OS and all the radio technic, the 5800 is a great value for money.
So I guess, for many people the 5800 will be an alternative to the iPhone, if the prices matters...

supplementary inspiration for Nokia to implement in a new firmware
I'm composing a list of things that have annoyed me or that I think could be improved on in the Nokia 5800's current firmware. I welcome everyone to add commentaries and features they've thought of themselves. Perhaps, some day, someone at Nokia will read it and pass on a few ideas. Read my frequently updated list at:
sanderstruck. blogspot. com /2009/02/ nokia-5800-annoyances.html
(Whenever something annoys me, I take it down in the built-in Notes app and later on I put it on my blog, might be a good idea to do so too - perhaps one day, we'll have the perfect phone, for just €300-odd).

Well, i have both 6233 n 5800, from india. 6233 is louder compared to 5800. Quality about the same, 5800 little better.

Just curious about loudspeakers !!
Hi Steve,
Nice Article. Just wanted to check on loudspeakers. Are they louder ( and better) than age old 6233 ? Asking because two of my friends (and my wife too) use 6233 just because of its loudspeaker quality and volume levels are so high.
Haven't had a chance to see 5800 myself even though it's launched in India quite some time ago hence asking. Maybe I should try and check for myself.
Regards
Umesh

According to the BBC's own support grid (linked elsewhere in this thread) 5800xm is not supported for downloads. So, not a glitch.

Of course, it's possible that the iPlayer thing is just a temporary glitch? We'll see, I guess, if it's still not working in a week's time 8-)
BTW, the theme on my 5800 is PiZero's "Ice". Many PiZero themes don't work properly on the 5800 (tabs problem) but this one does. Weird!

And although I agree that it's a jerky streamer, some careful handling can smooth out a lot of the jerking - I find that starting the stream then pressing 'pause' for a couple of minutes lets the stream get ahead enough to not effect playback. But you're right, it's a naff compromise when we had download before. I also had it downloading since the FW upgrade, so it can't be as a *direct* result of that.
Oh well, back to the N96 in the back pocket!

I think BBC allowing downloads on the 5800 was a mistake on their part. When V20 firmware came out it caught them out, they or Nokia never meant to allow it except for premium phones, and now they have caught up and switched it off.
Shame really, because for me downloads are the difference between the iPlayer being useful or useless. Since downloads were switched off on the 5800 I have uninstalled iPlayer, as a jerky streamer it's a waste of memory card space.

Steve, you forgot to include the goodies included with the phone's packaging. Guitar pluck/strap, phone case and video viewer stand are items most phone don't get and adds performace.

Yes - I have too. I don't think it's anything to do with the FW upgrade, as you say, though but rather the BBC have decided to pull the plug on it. I read somewhere on the iPlayer download page that 'only n96 and N85 can download' content. Very strange. See grid here...

Is anyone else's still working? Steve?

I thought we weren't supposed to compare this to the iPHONE.

@unregistered,
What are you talking about? The protective cover is great. I have taken my phone in and out countless times without scratching the phone or the screen. I will admit however, if you run the cover through sand and mud then put the phone in the case there is a chance that it can become scratched or damaged.
