The firmware version V31.0.017 is seriously having performance issues and gets hanged
Hi ,
I was using the version V30 of the Nokia N95.Recently i upgraded it to the V31.0.017 firmware version.
Now there is a lot of problems in my phone.
The phone gets hangs quite often
When trying to open the contacts sometimes it displays blank
The deive is much slower to respond to clicks
When trying to co to Settings-> display the phone hangs at times
I suggest all the nokia n95 users not to upgarde to V31 as it has lot of problems. Kindly continue to use V30 itself .I am now stuck with V31 as we cannot downgrade to the older version .
When i contacted the customer care they too do not respond well and just say to go to Nokia care centre which would charge rs7500 just for looking into the problem .They too dont have a solution to this.
I Just hope that nokia release a new update with bug fixes to v31 firmware and release it soon enough

The v31 firmware has been pulled from the Nokia site. I believe it is due to a language bug that some people are reporting.

Yeah, that's still aggravating me, since v20x has a bug that kills the browser's password-saving feature. It's unbranded and unlocked -- should be easy to create an update, right? *sigh*

Stop fighting you too, the N95-1 was officially launched on Sept 27th 2006 but not actually available until April 2nd 2007
Another example of Nokia launching phones months and months and months before they are available.

@Hardeep1singh (off topic):
I found that themes that are not in the app manager list are usually on the memory card. If you have space, install them to the phone memory. Also, you can manually delete themes from your memory card (google for it).
The installing issue on boot or memory card exchange was solved for me by searching the memory card for .SIS files with strange names (starting with 'a' I believe), and (backing up&) removing these. In mass storage mode of course.

You most likely have a 3-branded phone, meaning it will only update to the latest 3 "approved" firmware, which is v20. You have 2 options.
(1) Wait for 3 to sort out their own branded v30/v31 firmware. This is likely to take some time as the N95 is no longer their flagship device...
or
(2) De-brand your phone. This means your phone goes "native" - no more annoying 3 bookmarks, no more annoying 3 apps for 3-TV, 3-Games, etc. *HOWEVER* - this voids your warranty. If something goes wrong with your phone - you are *not* covered. There are plenty of threads on the web forums here and elsewhere that will tell you how to do it.
If you are reasonably computer savvy and willing to take the risk - go with (2). If not and you can do without widgets, automatic screen rotation and whatever else v30/v31 provides, stick with (1).
v20 is a nice N95 firmware - v30 only improves on minor aspects IMHO.

Updated and SMS issue resolved. First impressions.... maybe just that tiny bit snappier.
Now have an Ovi sync issue. Joy. Going to be now, I'll tinker tomorrow.

Guys if you have v30 already, dont bother updating to this firmware. The only differences I noticed is a few cosmetic changes- so small Im not bothered to type them out.
Its not worth going through the bother of backing up data just for minor changes.

N95 (original) upgraded successfully.
I have upgraded my N95 (original) phone and all 52 applications still work with little or no trouble. I am quite surprised how smoothly it went!
I can't say I can tell what has changed. The phone is noticeably quicker, although I put that purely down to the firmware upgrade. Once I restored all my texts, and photos, and calendar entry and it was back to it's usual self.
Upon starting the phone after the upgrade I did have to wait a long time (+- 5 minutes) for something to install from my memory card, but other than that, it was an uneventful upgrade.
I hope Nokia share the change log with us. I wonder when Nokia will push the firmware upgrade over the air?
