mikezs I am currently writing a Python application for Nokia phones with GPS built in to make this process of logging the names/locations automatic.

It will:

1. Make sure you can run the program
2. Find your location via GPS and ask if this is correct.
3. Within 5 minutes, let you scan for the phones (not all BT devices) in close proximity.
4. Save this as a KML file stamped with the date/time

This KML file can then be uploaded to Google Maps.

Should make the process very user friendly

Release should be in a week or so, I haven't got too much spare time at the moment (new job!)

You'll need PyS60 and lightblue bluetooth library, both developer signed, for S60 to make it work.

I can cover quite a lot of central London, so lookout for my submissions

shadamehr Sorted and added now - Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Thanks both of you.

(EDIT: though it's not done anything like how was suggested at least for me in the UK... I found I had to choose the "Collaborate" button (there is no Save to My Maps" option for me anywhere), click ok, then browse the map and then place the pushpin (which appears once you are in Collaborate mode) in the right spot, and then fill the text info in.

I then had to click Save, and then Done, and it seems to have added it.)

HTH.

more info

Hi Shadamehr,
you can find info about updating the map into its description.
Follow this link to have also the structure page in English: http://maps.google.it/maps/ms?hl=en&...b89876b2f6&z=6

Unfortunately Google reads my IP and presents the map in Italian by default, so i had to trick the URL. Finally you can update the map by saving it in your google maps (click the Save to My Maps link near the upper left corner of the map) and then you're free to update it.

Thanks for your interest.

shadamehr Would happily have done so.

IF someone, or the site author, could have posted instructions as to HOW you actually add your location to his custom map.

(Given that it's in Italian).

So I am UNABLE to do what he requests, for lack of instructions

The Bluetooth naming experiment

AAS reader Mirko Corli is setting up a social experiment about how people name their Bluetooth-enabled phone. It's based on Google Maps. If you'd like to get involved, see Mirko's Tumblelog or look directly on Google Maps
