when MMC or SD card restore fails,
you can use Noki (www.nokisoft.com) to extract/parse contacts, text messages, MMS, email etc out of the backup.arc file on the MMC or SD card.
There's a how-to on: backup.arc recovery (http://www.nokisoft.com/how-to.htm#how-to-10)

Nice, For Contacts use SyncML
The trick mentioned in the article has saved me after some of the "not so successful" experiments.
As for contacts,Calendars, Notes etc I use scheduleworld sync ( www scheduleworld (dot) com ). Scheduleworld services are free, btw and they use Standard SyncML.
This way my data survives a reset, memory card failures, Phone changes etc....

My 'Notes' did not survive the latest Nokia E90 firmware upgrade. I did a backup beforehand, ticking all the boxes. Did the firmware upgrade then the restore, but not Notes. Active Notes are all there, but not the normal ones.
Am I the only unlucky one?

Today I tried the method mentioned here. Took the backup of phone on memory card. And then formatted my phone...... But when I tried to restore the backup, to my shock, I am not finding the option of Restore backup.... What should I do now??? Is all my data gone or I am doing something wrong. By the way my Phone is N82 and firmware 20.
Thanks

This backup phone memory and restore doesn't even work on the n95s Welcome and Settingwizard 2 app. Tried it 2 months ago. Backedup, did a 3 finger, restore and zip, nadda, gone.

Scheduling backup?
Does anybody know of a backup utility which can be scheduled?
I was using BackupBuddy on my Palm Treo, and loved the fact that my Treo was backed up once a day without having to do any manual steps.

"may I know what "power cycling the phone" means ?"
Me thinks that means taking battery out and putting it back - other restart methods tend to leave something running/uninitialized/etc. and therefore are not necessarily thorough enough.

I've had too many bad experiences with PC Suite to trust it at all. Too many times that my phone book has been lost. These days my PIM all goes to Mobical and my phone gets backed up onto the memory card, although this, too, has bitten me in the past. I've found that the best thing after a system restore is to take the time and reinstall all your stuff from scratch. There's no better way to get back to having a glitch-free and zippy device. Restoring PIM from Mobical is easy and, so far, reliable.

I think it's a posh way of saying "turn it off and then turn it back on again"

Nice but....
I usually use this way of backup too.
Just: roughly in one in about four cases it doesn't work proper!
I do backups regularly, but IF there is an already damaged file or whatsoever on C:, the backup process to memory card suddenly stops (without further notice). For example, if the phone switched off simply by removing the battery, if there is no other way to restart the phone, I could imagine that this leaves some "mess" on C:. Result: the next time you do a backup, it may be incomplete, but I won't know about that.
Once you need to restore the backup, it does not run through completely.
So, my advice on this: make backups regularly, maybe keep the last 3 of them in a safe place (your computer's HDD), so you can try no.2 and no.3 just in case the most recent one does not work. And watch the duration the backup to memory card takes carefully. If it just takes 10 seconds, there obviously IS SOMETHING wrong already Better use your previous backup.

I have found the Nokia PC Suite backup to be very unreliable. Some applications are backed up and restored, others are not. Some data goes missing; in my case, I lost all of the passwords data that I had entered into BestSafe. When I contacted the producers, they told me that Nokia's backup was notoriously unreliable with regard to 3rd party data, which is why they had included an import/export function in Best Safe; I hadn't used this, as I had assumed that the Nokia Content Copier would do this for me... how wrong I was!!

Nice reading, again.
How about backing up the memory card and restoring it back.
For example, I have 8GB card and buy 16GB card. How should I transfer the files?

One of the steps I use to make sure I don't suffer problems after a firmware upgrade is to reformat the memory card.
So, I'll be re-installing all apps.
