BUT... for those trialling the prior Version 2 Beta, Nokia informed them they could NOT use the 3 month free licence, as this was a BETA product.

What, now, is the position therefore, for people like me, now that Maps 2.0 is NOT a beta product any longer, and is the official Nokia Recommended update.

Will I get three months free trial if I install it, and then decide to click to use the option I am meant to have...?
The 3 month trial works fine with Nokia Maps 2 (it actually worked fine with the beta as well)
If you are in any doubt, activate your licence before you update to version 2, thats the way I did it and the licence transferred just fine.

Yes. It appears once you have successfully calculated a navigable route. Press Options on the map screen.

Pay As You Go

I think 25-50 cents (about the cost of a few local phone calls here in australia) is the right price point for a voice guided route from A to B.
If you changed the destination, it would charge another 25-50 cents per change, but wouldn't charge extra for if you deviated, and the route to the same endpoint was recalculated. (and if you typed in a wrong start/end, it's your own fault. same as if you ring a wrong number, you don't get your credit back!)
Operator billing would be awsome for this.

Ratkat As unregistered stated

Network positioning works fine with the E51

Just make sure you change the Positioning Server (Tools/Settings/General/Positioning/Positioning Server) to supl.nokia.com

And it's not really clear why this network positioning (which only needs an online connection) can't be made to work on non-GPS devices like the N81 and E51... Comments welcome.
It probably could be, but as they say it's not accurate enough for navigation then it wouldn't lead to any paying subscribers.

works at e51

Just installed it on e51. Link to download doesn´t show at nokia site, but if you put device title at page it pops right download link.
I don´t have any bluetooth gps but i have to find out if network based positioning works. It works!
At settings I have to put posítion methods network-based and networkadress at supl.nokia.com
Works faster than my n95!

Unregistered The Map App is new, but the Map Loader is still the same old piece of rubbish. Needs .net framework, won't work with Mac or Linux, and there's no way to download maps with map loader if you're at work or school, in a hotel or internet cafe, or any other place that won't let you install software on their computers.

The Nokia Map Loader Alternative at http://nokiamaps.moo.no lets you download maps with just your web browser. On any computer, withany operating system.

Might be worth keeping an eye on.

Also, in one of the screen shots at the top, it shows the icon menu which is different to what I have on my N95 here i.e. there are zoom functions shown and some of the icons have slightly different names. Just curious as to why.
They are the same screenshots that AAS used in their review of the first Map 2.0 Beta.

I never bothered with the first beta, but both the second beta and release version are different to the ones pictured
