I think the N81's basic problem wasn't the design but the price, it was far too expensive considering its specifications. No TV Out, no GPS, no 3D chip, only a 2mp camera and only a QVGA camcorder, there wasn't anything to justify its premium price.
It was essentially the same hardware as the 6120, but cost twice as much and was a bit more bulky too.

Play returns are returned to a UK mainland return dept, not one in Jersey and allow you up to 28 days to return a faulty handset, or 7 days for unused items.
I used to use Expansys all the time, but their prices in the last year or so especially on the new releases have been bordering on ridiculous.
For example: N95 when released last April was £499 at Play and MobileFun, £679 at Expansys.
You can always expect to pay a premium on new releases but their price was way over the top, they didn't drop the price anywhere near the levels of other companies for over two months either.

That is true, but don't forget that (at the risk of running an eXpansys ad here again) it's not in the UK mainland and they don't have quite the same attractive 'returns' arrangements as eXpansys. And, yes, just to contradict myself a little, I do also use Play sometimes!
Incidentally, I don't know if anyone noticed but the eXpansys all-encompassing 21-day no questions asked no-quibble returns arrangements are still in place (in part) but sometime in the recent past it dropped to 10 days and you certainly do have to explain yourself! Still good, though.

N81 not a 'smartphone'?
Yes, you're right. I've noticed this bargain and cashed in a couple of weeks ago. What's interesting about eXpansys however, is that they continue to place (some) N Series (and even some E Series) devices in their 'Mobile Phone' category instead of 'Smartphone'. Very odd that they shouldn't recognise the status of these handsets, don't you think?

The N81 8GB in a Stock Clearance already?
I was interested to see (and apologies if this sounds like an Expansys advert) the Nokia N81 8GB in their stock clearance already, at £215 plus VAT. We know the N81 had some flaws, but this early? Also noteworthy is that the E90's had a price cut, to a (slightly) more palatable £460 plus VAT. If you've seen any 'net bargains, do please comment!
