Update
Hi all
The update is available now for certain product codes, i have no N95 to try etc.
The best part about it is that it's not carrier-dependent. Nokia has (wisely) setup their own A-GPS server, so that as you (and other users) use it, the database is strengthened. Brilliant.
So it sends your current cell-id, LAC and operator id back to their database once you've established a GPS lock? Then subsequent users could find a match, and use this to pre-seed their GPS to approximate area. From memory, the LAC for East Anglia is 165 on Orange. Presumably even just an area code rather than a cell-id (specific to a few miles) will speed up the GPS lock. Anyone have any good links explaining a-GPS?

Do any operators in Europe have Assisted GPS available now? I see Orange trialled it in 2005.

N95 v12 firmware on the way?
So there I was chatting to the AAS team yesterday and wondering how long it would take until the N95 received its next firmware update - and it turns out that v12 firmware is on the horizon at least, Ricky Cadden has got himself a preview and some screenshots. The main addition so far noticed seems to be Assisted GPS, in an attempt to solve the N95's legendary GPS lock-on problems.
