prerelease
Hello steve,
First of all thank you for all your reviews.
I have just received my E 90 that I preorder and it the same box and firmware as the ones in your 'unboxing' pictures. My question is that you called this a pre-release prototype model, does that mean the phone I have now is not fully set and work? Will I be able to preform a over-the-air upgrade or flash my phone with the latest firmware, or will my E90 never be like a production model?
I'm a little worry I got something that may give me problems.
Thank You.
Currently own: 9300i and N93

Sending faxes... / scanning business cards
You can send faxes for free to most countries with Scanr.com and Qipit.com.
Especially Scanr is a fantastic service as it also has business card scanning with character and contact field recognition that returns you a vcf file - or even syncs with Plaxo. This is actually one of my (additional) main reasons for getting the E90 - with autofocus and over 2mpix camera it works with Scanr business card scanning.

keyboard macro program for S60 3rd ed (=for E90)
Psion's excellent keyboard macro program "Macro5" never made it to Nokia S80 devices. Does this misfortune continue to S60 3rd edition?
Is there any keyboard macro programs for S60 3rd edition?
It could circumvent some E90's deficiencies. I have not been able to find a single keyboard macro program for S60 3rd ed. in the net.

I agree with carl - do the users know they have their details on the net for all to look up?
Tantalising news though steve!

productcode
hi steve,
i have also a proto - with german os (07.12.0.0) and box. Because there is a new version of "nokia software updater" (1.3.71de), that recognizes the E90, I would like to try a firmware-update. Unfortunately there is no update for my phone right now - but maybe there is with a different productcode. So if you would give me your productcode please, I can try it...
Thank you in advance
christian

Indeed they do Steve. I work in the Communications (essentially PR) department at the OU and we send and receive a few faxes each week, though admittedly not many. However, in Student Services, they received LOADS of faxes - people filling out registration forms and faxing them in on the last day of registration etc.
So fax is not dead. A lot of copiers are now networked and anything you copy can also be emailed to you instead of fax (though they can generally do that too). Our office is relatively low-tech in that regard and generally use email for everything. We just do lots of talking, emailing, publication production and photography etc so have ways of working that have not changed enormously in years, despite being a large organisation dedicated to being on the forefront of new developments and change lol.

Steve
have your contacts at Nokia indicated when the E90 (SIM free) will be available first in the UK?

If someone wants to send me one to try.... I'm not wasting my money on a card that's probably not going to work.

This is in Finnish, but if you look this news item http://www.tietokone.fi, there is Kingston's mobile device development manager Jarkko Pekki telling that he has testing the first HC-cards and Nokia N95, E90 and Motorola Z8 will be the first devices to support these new cards. Size will be 4GB first, and bigger are coming soon.
