Yesterday @ Nokia Store a tech guy broke the SIM slot by introducing a micro SIM adapter into it. They send my unlocked C7 to repair, for free. They assure me that it won't take long even if they told me that C7 is no longer produced. In the meantime I do not have any replacement except an old E51.

I am worried they cannot repair it. Is the SIM slot easy to substitute?

In the meantime E51 allows me to place calls and text but...

What happened thought me that it's always better to have a similar spare around just in case. I am a standard size SIM owner. To change it I need a long request process to my Employer IT Dept. Technically it's not mine so I'd be liable to cut it to micro SIM.

So I am left with three options:

Wait for the repair.
Get a discounted E7 or 701
Wait for 808 and ask for Micro SIM to my employer

What would you do?

Thanks in advance
Pasha

Hi everybody!
I have some really sad news to report: the battery in my old trusty p800 has finally started to show its age (well, one would imagine, after nine years…) so it’s time for me to retire the old chap and to buy a new phone. Why am I here you would ask, on this burning platform? In principle I have nothing against other brands, but it seems that Symbian is the still the right choice for me. I need
- good telephony / texting
- good battery life
- sturdy design
- pocketable size
- simple Google calendar + contacts sync (GoogaSync), Evernote (Notekeeper), Dropbox
- good price

I guess that nothing but Symbian fits the above list. Good Android phones are too large, WP is not yet born, and the folks at Cupertino are well-off even without my euros. Another reason for leaning towards Nokia is, of course, that was a big fan of Matti Nykänen.

So I’m here to ask you which phone is a worthy successor of my p800, N8 (280 EUR) or 701 (230 EUR)? This time, let’s say for the next five years. In any case I’m sure I’ll miss that stylus and UIQ.

Thanks for your comments.

jd

P.S. Now that I mentioned Matty - it seems that so far Nokia's fate has been very much like the one of Matty Nykänen's...

Hello!
The glass screen on my wife's N8 broke a while ago. After realizing how expensive it is to replace the glass in a shop, I decided to do it yourself. The first glass from eBay was scratched so it was returned. I bought another one from another vendor and installed it. At the same time I updated to Belle.
The problem now is that after a certain time, it is independent of phone usage, the touch screen stops working. All three buttons can be used, it is possible to take pictures and activate the application menu and so on, but to make some choices on the screen does not work. If I reboot the phone it works just fine for an indefinite period and then stops responding to screen touch again. My first thought was that the upgrade to Belle went wrong so therefore I wiped the phone and did the upgrade again, without a restore from backup, but the result is the same. My theory now is that the touch electronics stops working for some reason.

I need some help with suggestions on what to do. My suggestions are:

* Test some alternative firmware
* Replacing the glass again (!) But how do I know I get a working glass? eBay is cheap but risky.
* Contact Nokia/reseller and use guarantee. Probably won't work since I've tried to fix the phone myself.
* Buy a new / used phone.

Has anyone here experienced the same problem?

BR,
Markus

Hi,

lately I've been having problems keeping my 5800 connected in PC Suite mode for map downloads. I've already resorted to using mass storage mode (or pulling the microsd card and driving it directly) for large music updates but that is not an option for the maps.

What's happening is that Nokia suite (latest version) sees the 5800 and I queue whatever maps I want. While it's downloading and installing all of a sudden Nokia Suite will say something like 'phone must be connected to download maps' even though at the bottom the 5800 still shows connected.

Earlier I had similar trouble updating music using MediaMonkey in PC Suite mode. It would be in the middle of copying music and then stall.

Any ideas how to resolve this? My host PC is a fast W7 x64 box.

Thanks,
