Is anyone else curious about the N97 Compass?

Per the user's manual you're supposed to wave the N97 all about until the compass rose on the map display changes from red-to-yellow-to-green.

My N97 NAM white always goes back to red after I stop shaking it.

Granted when I'm driving, it seems to find its way and work, but walking, standing, etc. it's always red.


I just waiting for someone to come out with just a Compass Applet that you can hold in your hand and find north without having to call up the Map application ("There's an app for that!").

I got my UK N97 yesterday and after sorting it the multitude of other setting i turned to the Compass/GPS. I expected to have to sit there waving the phone around like a complete muppet for ages but to my surprise no. Just as i was about to calibrate the compass there was a knock at the door, so i put my phone down, answered the door then came back. Within that short space of time the compass sorted itself and had the green indicator without me having to move it. Has been fine ever since. Very bizarre.
