I just checked for the 11.0.0.9 update on my blue 5800, and it said v.20.0.012

I've just updated... now looking for changes.

One thing... the phone will ask you for the lock code when it turns on (mine did anyway) - the stupid thing sets itself to text input, so you have to HOOOOLD the keys down to get the numbers of your lock code!

+ new icon for "media" folder
+ new icon for "download" application
+ You can now edit what gets shown on the "Shorcuts bar" home screen. i.e should it show search, music player, calendar, radio etc. Sadly not yet available in the "contacts" view :(
+ Search on the home screen is now "search internet and my content :)
+ Camera seems to process images faster. Initial impressions on image quality are: it's the same
? Messaging seems less likely to crash when retrieving emails (if set to auto-retrieval, when you previously double clicked on an email to actually download it, Messaging would crash 9 times out of 10 unless you previously had connected to the mailbox)

What happens is the buttons, images, basically everything on the screen takes on a purple / green / red tinge, like there's a screen malfunction, except the network and battery indicators remain perfectly white. It comes and goes on its own... damned annoying! :( :( :(
+ Top menu bar (in messaging / bluetooth etc.) has now been changed to ONLY show 3 icons (tabs), which scroll left / right as you click on them. There's no arrows though, so this is a tad confusing at first (no indication of extra tabs available)

I just did the update over the air. I had changed my lock code to 12077 but after the update this did no longer work. So I decided to try the default 12345, which didn't do anything either. Now I'm stuck here, what can I do? Any other things I could try?

- YES, if you *know* it's gone back to text mode...

I bet your lock code is still the same as it was (mine was) but the phone is thinking you're typing it as text...

Heh? What do you mean? I've entered the codes both in text mode and in number mode, but to no avail. crap, to the nokia service centre then?

So when I hit the new search button, I get "system error" and only the option to press OK and go back to main screen.

Ideas?

guys i just updated, my lock code was 65000, and its not working now!! please help someone!!!!!!

There seems to be a major bug with lock codes... Nokia claim the code is reset to 12345 but we all know that's not the case here!

Just updated my Blue Nokia 5800 to v20 via OTA. After every restart I need to enter the date and time on the phone. It seems frustrating to do it everytime. Anyone has any idea why it happens and what I can do to solve it. My product code: 0570197

I hope a solution is coming quickly and it that it doesn't involve going to a nokia service centre where I have to hand in my phone for a few days. Besides it's only open on work days so I never get there. :<

For those of you having the lock code issue (this worked for me, but is not an official fix) - try re-flashing your phone using NSU. I did this and the update correctly reset my lock code to 12345

i did more research,

the soft reset *#7780# didnt work so i tried hard reset *#7370#

and after doing the the hard reset- *#7370# (which did restore to factory)
problem is solved. all i had extra to do was to copy the full content back.

now the search works and also got all the extras - dictionary and app. update.

job done!!! :)

I updated my 5800 blue useing OTA. UDP worked flawlessly. All my contacts, messages, etc. were still available after the update.
So much for the good news. The bad news is that nearly all of my self installed apps crashed or failed to work at some point. I tried getting rid of my issues by doing a soft reset. At first it seemed to work fine, but after a while the strangest things started happening. My alarm clock reminder froze by the time I snoozed my alarm, my phone required me to set date and time every time I turned it on, etc.
Finally I decided to hard reset my phone, which suprisingly made it even worse.

After hours of fiddling, formating the memory card and another hard reset I finally got my phone working again.

For those of you having the lock code issue (this worked for me, but is not an official fix) - try re-flashing your phone using NSU. I did this and the update correctly reset my lock code to 12345

Hero! This does indeed fix my problem - even keeping my files. For whatever that's worth because the System error upon trying "search" still necessitates a hard reset, but hey :)

+ "use secondary camera" option in camera's menu, probably to use the front-side camera
+ multimedia bar is now skinnable
+ the theme effects are much more supple now. Menus don't flicker after opening any more. Still slowing the phone down though.
+ Skype now does not crash after opening (still not running fine though)
+ file browser is much faster
+ I can now connect to my own WLAN (before I could only use the neighbours' WLAN, even though it would see my own WLAN)
+ touchscreen is less sensitive, a little too insensitive tbh. There should be a way to adjust this.

new to this forum thing but some stuff hear helped me so... wat goes around comes around :).

Anywho i installed the v20 update and i had a few problems.

1. Asked me for my unlock code, i typed my one in but it would not accept it.

2. The search feature in home menu was giving me an error message when i tried to access it.

3. I didn't have the app.update thing or the dictionary applications.

To resolve (for me anyway!!!)

1. reinstall the update
2. hard reset your phone using *#7370*

What happened.

1. my unlock code reset to 12345
2. all updated stuff listed appeared and works
3. the search feature works.

I just came across a new feature! Upon changing the writing language (e.g. when using the full qwerty keyboard) the keyboard layout changes giving you e.g. a full qwertz german leyboard layout. Way to go Nokia!

+ multimedia bar now shows that a program is active, even if the program was not started over the bar itself
+ music player now reacts much quicker to remote control keypresses and it's become to adjust volume through the remote control

- camera displays "unexpected error. restart phone" after using it once. Could have sth to do with my memory card being locked since the update.
- cannot delete Marble Revolution 2 game downloaded from Nokia
- cannot find Google Maps (even though when I try to install it, it says it's already present on the phone. It can also not be deleted or upgraded).

any ideas on what to do with that?

Nokia either have a major manufacturing issue on their hands, or this is a major bug!

I've had 2 handsets that do this now, so with yours that's at least 3... and I know my two came from different production batches, so they can't even blame a simple "batch issue"

I'm wondering, why is there an option to add birthdays to your contacts if they don't automatically show up in the calendar?

Also, the 'add anniversary' option in the calendar does not really offer an alternative, since it does not tell me how old the person in question is. Any workarounds?

After the firmware update my 5800 doesn't dimm the screen anymore when I'm calling someone and the phone is near my ear. I loved this feature as it saved a lot of power for callaholics like me ;)

ive done the firmware update and all the hard resets as mentioned in my earlier post and all good.

but the annoying thing is, for example on touch piano i dont get full scren.

I get an annoying virtual d pad(keypad)/ on screen key pad.
I cant get rid of it. help!!

Select this and there is an option called ON SCREEN KEYBOARD.
Here you can select 3 options, one of which is off.

Like I said, may not work for the programs you're having trouble with but definitely works with some.

Just got my 5800 today, I noticed some weird color changing happening (screen randomly changes colour to red, green, blue...) which ultimately causes the display to go dark, and as I see is a common issue.
I looked for a newer firmware (currently its V11.0.008) and it seems even the newer firmware cannot fix it, what do you suggest? any chance of fixing it myself? Should I return it?

Thanks for the answer stuclark, I also called Nokia Care and the guy seemed to be clueless about it, insisting that I need to get the latest firmware and just explaining how to do it through PC suite! idiot...

Anyway, I then called the store which I got the phone from (its an authorized Nokia retailer), they said they will check the phone and see if they can do something about it (no mention of replacing it with a new one! great!) I'm doomed! don't know how to explain the bug to them, and I'm %100 sure they'd say "sir it's not the phone's fault, it's your eye's! it's working you see?!)

Now aside from this really annoying display bug, I'm having another issue with this phone, I can't install ANY .sis file on it! it ends up with a "expired certificate" error and installation fails (I tried WorldMate which I downloaded directly from the Download! menu and it ends up with the same error). I googled it and got some vague answers, they mostly suggest reseting the phone. oh God when will it end?!!

In the end, I have to say that I'm totally frustrated. 5800 is a great phone but being the very first symbian 5th edition device, it comes with so many bugs, wish I had researched more before purchasing it.

The certificate expired bug can be fixed by doing a factory reset on the phone (*#7370#) although you'll then have to reload everything on to the handset.

In terms of the screen bug - take it into the shop and insist that they let you show them the fault (regardless of how long it takes to make it do it) - then they won't argue if you say "screen fault".

Something I noticed: When trying to get the phone to reproduce the bug, it is more likely to happen if you do something which causes a complex screen re-draw, such as quiting gallery while changing the screen orientation

The second download in the guides I have seen to do this is reported as containing a virus/trojan for me. Which is not suprising for unlocking software from random Russian/Chinese/etc. sites.

Anyone heard anything about when Nokia might deign to grace our expensive red handsets with v20 (or later) ? Or why they haven't yet ?

I've just got my red handset back from Nokia service and it now has the v20 firmware on it. Only time will tell if they have fixed the problem (phone shutting down randomly). However, I now have a new problem. Google maps now prompts for a network connection on startup and if latitude is enabled prompts every time it wants to update the Google servers with my position. It did not do this on the old v11 firmware. Browser is set to use the "Internet" destination. Is this a bug in the new firmware?

I successfully changed my phone's product code and upgraded to V21 last night, many thanks to those who posted how to do it.

However I accidentally used a blue code rather than a red one, so I ended up with a blue theme on my red phone. (DOH!)

I've installed the red theme that's been posted a few times, but it doesn't seem to be the same as the original theme on the phone. In particular the signal strength and battery meters are a sort of very pale blue, and the 'greying out' colour (e.g. when you activate a menu when browsing the web and the web page is greyed out) is now light blue. Is there any way to fix this, as it doesn't look as nice.

Funnily enough when I use the blue theme built into the firmware the meters are white and the greying out colour is grey, as they should be.

Is there any way to re-flash the phone with a red firmware? If not, I guess I'll wait until the new V30 firmware appears, and flash a red one that time.

Apart from that I'm very pleased. The phone's a lot more responsive and web browsing is much, much faster. (Was on V11 before).

And I bricked it.
The update software said the update was complete, so I'm sure I did nothing wrong.
