View Full Version : Can't set defaults for any contact in N85.
mfzaman 22-11-2008, 10:32 AM Hi, I've been using my N85 for a week now. Everything is perfect except that I cannot set any default number for any of the contacts stored in my N85. Whenever I go to Contact and press defaults in edit mode nothing happens and the screen goes back to the main screen.
This is very annoying as I have quite a few numbers in each contact and cannot set the default number to dial. I don't know if there is anyone facing the same problem or not but please try to help.
jonek 22-11-2008, 11:08 AM Hi mfzaman
I have exactly the same problem, so you're not alone.
My guess is that the next firmware update will resolve it. I suppose it is possible that a hard reset would solve it too, but I don't need the service enough to go through the process.
Perhaps if anyone has reset their N85 and now has Defaults working, they could let us know.
Sorry I haven't actually resolved anything for you, but sometimes knowing that you're not the only one is helpful.

contacts / choose one / select the number / options / Defaults .. pick the number Internet # PPT msg # or email addy
.. once set the default contact method should appear underlined in the contact information.
Good luck!:)
pennas 22-11-2008, 07:04 PM I just clicked on the person entry, then pressed 'defaults', ie I didn't go into edit mode. Seemed to work!
mfzaman 23-11-2008, 05:04 AM Thanks for your replies guys, but still nothing happens :con?. Whenever I go to contacts and select one then go to options and press defaults - the screen goes back to the main screen.
Maybe some of the N85 has this problem not all as some of them can use the dafaults as per their replies. Very strange indeed!! Hope someone can shed some light in this annoying issue.

Hey mfzaman -- I was having the same issue with my new N85-3 and I found a solution:
Make a backup of all your contacts to the memory card (mark them all, then follow Create backup > To memory card).
Then, delete all your contacts from the phone by marking them all and hitting "C".
Then, restore all your contacts from memory card (Create backup > From memory card).
This seems to cure the issue, I can now assign default numbers and e-mail addresses.
mfzaman 16-12-2008, 09:30 AM Thanks NseriesChicago :icon14:, I'll definitely give it a try and will let you know.

mfzaman 20-12-2008, 04:50 AM Thank you guys for all the help :icon14:. I backed up and then deleted all my contacts from the phone memory and then restored it back from the memory card. After that I can set all the defaults for my phone numbers and emails. Great....
