simoningram 13-10-2008, 03:36 PM This thread may be of interest to those of you that like to go it alone. It seems firmware version 15 is out there on the net, if anyones brave enough to try flashing it themselves: - http://samsungi8510.com/forum/how-flash-new-firmware-t178.html

Thanks Simon, but im certainly not going to invalid my warranty. Sounds like they are getting their fingers out at last. Took it back to CPW at the weekend and they werent very helpful at all!

Me neither bricking my new phone is not something I personally want to risk, but I'm sure there will be someone who'll want to give it a go.

It will be good to get feedback from people that have suceeded and hopefully give us an update on the improvements.
srw985 13-10-2008, 06:13 PM Hmm...
Im downloading the files (unofficially) now.

Maybe worth waiting a couple of days and see what happens on the samsung site. It looks like they are working on it....alternatively....wait for someone else to break their phone and report back!
bowman 13-10-2008, 11:20 PM At the moment you can't do anything as the usb drivers aren't available for download (if they are they're proving hard to track down). So nobody on the other forum has done it yet.

I kind of guessed that as I tried to download Studio 3 and the drivers and the phone would not connect. Im hoping that it will be soon. The phone is fab, but it desparate needs that update, as it is slower than my old N95v1

Looks like someone's managed to pull it all together:- http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=610528

Just had a look myself.. theres only 4 country options... Kazakhstan, russia, slovinia and ukrane so no good for UK
stuclark 14-10-2008, 10:27 AM Guys, it's only a week until the Smartphone Show. I can guarantee that THE question asked of Samsung most will be about firmware updates for the 8510, so before you all go and brick your phones; install viruses on your PC; or have to learn foreign languages... just wait one more week until we have an official line on this!
(oh, and remember that these flashing techniques are illegal and will void all warranty on your phone)
srw985 14-10-2008, 03:05 PM Im tempted but Ive decided not to. Atleast until its gets abit clearer and a UK edition is available.
srw985 15-10-2008, 02:48 PM Can you set English as a language?
Do you lose items on phone memory or lose installed apps?

how did you get them installed???
ceza_21 16-10-2008, 04:45 PM does any1 know if there is a uk edition software flash available???
srw985 16-10-2008, 07:20 PM Successfully flashed to HI5.
First thing I noticed is new start up screen.
Fifa and Asphalt are gone.
Anything else I notice Ill let you know.
srw985 16-10-2008, 08:02 PM Big Success!
I backed up using PC Studio before updating.
After restoring all my apps, themes, menus, settings, contracts etc are all back.
It restored the missing apps like Fifa 08 and Asphalt 3 fine. We also now seem to have Asphalt 4 in HI5.
Works fine for UK English. You can select United Kingdom as your location.
One thing I have had to do is refresh the Music Players library, not that thats any trouble.
Music Player is a little faster.
Only thing Ive noticed as going missing is my install of Resco Photo Viewer. That will only take 5 minutes to rectify though.
The camera still fails to remember your "Anti Shake" preference each time you open the app :(
Feels nothing like my amazing innov8 to use anymore and much more like my old laggy N95
You dont get that little spinning loading symbol as you wait for a Java app (or any app) to load anymore :(
More as I notice it...
HelloCarbide hacking still doesnt work.
We also appear to have lost the flashly side scrolling animation as you load apps, go through menus, etc :(
Seem to be alot more negatives than positives in this update :(
stuclark 16-10-2008, 09:04 PM Seeing how this "upgrade" is a hacked or at least illegally leaked firmware, you can't really judge anything on it's abilities / features / stability.
Wait until NEXT WEEK when we can ask Samsung officially about firmware updates!

To be honest it wouldnt surprise me if this is nothing but a rip of HH8 and somebody unofficial has changed the number to HI5 and added Asphalt 4 for a wind up.
srw985 18-10-2008, 07:43 AM Id like to point out that although I thought it removed the side scrolling animation, it came back after I changed my theme then changed it back.
Crigsha 22-10-2008, 07:13 PM how did you get them installed???
it come with the phone. dont knwo if anyone wud have the files to install them again tho...
stuclark 22-10-2008, 07:21 PM HI5 is NOT a new firmware, it's a country specific firmware!
The latest firmware Samsung have put on ANY phone is HH9
srw985 25-10-2008, 11:16 AM Is there a rip of HH9 somewhere for those of us who are on HH7 or HH8?
Im comforable with flashing it using the unofficial method we already have.
Nirok 27-10-2008, 11:31 PM yes I would like to know if anyone has hh9? my phone says my software version is: I8510xxHH7
and my custom version is I8510L08XEUHH8
What is the difference? soes this mean I have version HH7 or HH8?
Thanks
