Look at the date of the news, they were talking about the P990.

If I'm thinking P1000, the following comes to mind :

-faster CPU, maybe Intel Xscale?
-much more internal RAM
-better battery, the BST-33 on my P990i doesn't last longer than two days
-at least 5MP camera..

The P990i's design is not too shabby, but I'm sure Sony's designers can make it even more 'funkier'... :)

Although this is an old topic. It would be interesting to hear folks views of what will be the next P..... I'm guessing they probably will go with the P1000. It will be roughly the same design although updated, and I reckon they will try and make it that little bit thinner. Hopefully they will keep the querty keypad too.

There isn't anything on any website about the next incarnation. But I imagine they will be working of something :)

I don't think we'll see another P series phone - at least not for some time. The next smartphone flagship will be the M610i - basically the M600i with all the extra features of the P990 (3.2mp cam, wifi, fm radio) plus more memory. If they can get all that in the M series form factor (and apparently they can) it really makes the old P-series flip arrangement redundant.

however, it seems P700 will come after all, the P990 little bro ;)

17-04-2007, 07:41 AM
Ah yes, but is it a P series in name only? The rumours I've seen are that it'll be a flipless phone with the M600's keyboard - effectively the M610i by a different name...

23-04-2007, 06:02 AM
i'd hate to see a p series like that p700 is nothing like p990 i mean what is this
while expecting a p1000, i am a p990 owner and p700 personally insults me really, 3.2mp cam doesn't really charms, i'd like to think that the new p series should have at least 5mp cam, why? coz p is the high end series of SE why copy the m600 keyboard and make a p series with it....

24-04-2007, 07:26 AM
Regardless of whether there will ever be another P series with a flip (and personally I don't think there needs to be, the M style keypad is easily good enough to replace it) there certainly won't ever be a "P1000" - it's too many digits, it breaks up SE's neat numbering system.

Which begs the question, what does come after P990? P991? P999? Or do they get sensible and just restart the numbering back to the beginning of the P series, before the P800 say... P700? ;)

I couldnīt care less about the megapixels on the camera...the fact k800 3mp camera is at least has good has 5mp n95īs is another example

I think there are other features much more desirable...

One thing really meaningfull is that they put 128mb Ram on the P700, so all future UIQ phones will be at least with that

@Boinng, P700 is not the P990 sucessor...that is already planned and will come a bit later, for sure

And i think the normal P design was not abandoned but will be "updated", has it should ;)

I'll be surprised and dissapointed if they persevere with the flip design, it just doesn't fit with UIQ3 in my opinion, and it looks clunky, bulky and just plain old these days. Now that they've abandoned the flip in the P700, that paves the way for future P series phones to do the same...

Incidentally, this is spoken by someone who LOVED their P800 and P910, back in the day...

Also, I don't see how you can dismiss the P700 as a replacement for the M600, when it doesn't meet the same need at all - with a camera it doesn't have the same business appeal, and obviously it will be more expensive too. It seems more like an intermediate replacement for the P990 (sorry, but it does..)

24-04-2007, 11:08 AM
You can believe what you want, but the P990 sucessor is planed to be launched not many months after the P700, so...

Also, many people are still fans of the flip design, and do not fancy the M600 style

Knowing the P990 will be upgraded to Symbian 9.3 will make alot of people to hang around for its true sucessor, and the P700 will be more suited for M600 users upgrade, or for new UIQ users. Of course it his clearly more powerful than the P990, but even so, it does not have all that most are waiting for a P990 replacement

24-04-2007, 11:46 AM
But since it has a camera (a very good one at that) it cannot serve as a replacement for many of the M600's users. They will be looking for another reasonably priced, camera-less messaging phone, which the P700 clearly isn't. So either there is no replacement for the M600, or the M600's replacement is yet to come.

The P700, meanwhile, is something else. And since it does improve on most of the P990's features, and will be available just as many P990 owners are looking to upgrade, I think it will probably replace a good few P990's whether SE intend it to or not. Symbian 9.3 may placate a few people, but it's not exactly a whole new phone...

Swivel is dead for this year at least! No swivel, no market for it and not really a decent form factor for SE. They stick to candybar, slider and clamshell!

P700i is real and M610i does not exist. I got the name wrong.... And it was mentioned that it would not come...... There is another device based on UIQ with a flip. Thinner than P990i and its real successor. Not for this year I presume and not ready yet. Looks like to be more in the direction of next year!

this will make people wait ;)

25-04-2007, 06:19 AM
It might make some wait, but it's still just a rumour that's obviously a long way from market. The P700 otoh is real, and looks like it'll be coming soon...

I honestly think SE would be making a mistake persisting with the flip design, but luckily there's still time for them to change their mind :)

the information regarding the P990 is sucessor is way more than a rumor my friend, i tell you...the simple fact MR is saying it, if you know who he is should tell you that

regarding the flip design, well, its you opinion, it has LOTS of folowers, that like it more than the MXXX or P700 type of design

26-04-2007, 11:04 AM
Ares, the M610 was "more than a rumour" at one point, and then suddenly it didn't exist anymore and we had the P700 instead... when we're talking about phones in development that haven't a hope of making it to market for a year, there's always time for SE change direction a few more times ;)

@boinng, the only thing that happened to the m610...was a change of name

the p990 sucessor already exists in prototype, and the only question now is what series/name it will have...

29-04-2007, 09:15 AM
Other than the flip, I don't see what is missing from the P700 that they could add in the sucessor to the P990? For me, the P700 fills all the gaps in the M600 and the P990. Can't wait :D

Really Ares? Take a look at the leaked pictures of the "M610i" here - - is it the same as the P700 PeterKay demonstrated? Exactly the same?

Designs and plans change... I wouldn't be surprised if a cut down M610 still appeared at some point.
