Open the Control Panel (in Extras), then select the icon "Display parameters". Here there are 2 pages, one for contrast and brightnes, and one for color. In "color" you can select the background picture (the one you show is "leaves").

THANX /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif
But I know that..of course.

So maybe I did not specify my question correctly.
I was thinking of custom .jpg picīs .
Kinda like the wallpapers..
But those 5 picīs for the Right menu Nokia has supplyed us with just isenīt enough.
Imagine only having 5 Nokia wallpapers to chose from.../phpBB/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif
Now that would be a downer.
There must be a way to sneak in a custom pic somewhere, but where ?

So the Question is still wide open /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Goto filemanager and Shift+Ctrl+k -> Yes.

Then goto C\system\data\display.mbm and open it.

Those pictures are in frames.. (Ctrl+N next frame).

Hope it helps..
Now you just replace those pic's somehow..

Regards.

Very nice indeed /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I got them.....Now that part was easy..
I havenīt been there, thanks Jep

BUT..Now that we know where they are located, how do you add a custom frame.
Is it to overwrite one of the old ones or is there a way to add new frames in the display.mbm file ?
Any creative ideas outthere ???

It would be possible to create a new file that inlcuded new frames. You would probably have to do this using BMPCONV tool from the SDK (used to created .mbm from .bmp). You may also be abel to create single frame files to swap in and out with the built in.

I may look at investigating this sometime in the future, but I've got more than enough to do atm!

If anyone does produce any files I'll gladly place them on the site though.

OH JOY
Imagine...Custom Icons on the Desk... /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Hey..A new program idea appeared...

Would it be possible to make a "Theme changer" Application..First update the .mbm files manually..."The Themes"...Then have a program to change the Colours, Wallpaper, Right pane, and maybe even the icons(If one packed himself a LARGE icons.mbm file)..That would be real slick..

Heck..Im not at C++ kind of guy so iīll toss the ball up /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I've been investigating this in the emulator - however I've discovered the emulator does not appear to have the second screen of the display dialog...

so could some send me a screenshot of what it looks like (I'm writing an article about customisation) [you'll get credit] /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

and also could someone send display.mbm and the extraicons.mbm that JeP talked about. If I get a chance I'll have a play and let you know what happens!

Wow!, now that was fast or what loonyworld?

Thx to Michael Jerz if it was you, who make it....But why commercial?

I think there's also startup picture, "hands", somewhere in there... /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Rafe, you know any other software to edit .mbm pic's?

Rafe

As far as I am aware there is nos oftware for editing COLOUR mbm files on the PC, you have to convert back and forth between bmp's. You can create them more easily on an EPOC machine than anywhere else.

However the conversion isn't too difficult and I'll hopefully have something (a tutorial) for you all soon that will allow creation of your own custom startup pictures / textures etc.

On to the great news.
The SDK kit arrived in the mail from Nokia this morning. So now itīs all about gettin to know that BMPconverter and image resulutions and the likes.so maybe soon there will be a Loonyzip file with Loonytextures and Loonystartup screen and maybe even small Loony Icons for the Desk...Boy..Thatīs gonna be awsome.
I only wonder if there is a limit the the amount of BMP frames you can pack in a MBM file..(like the 4 there is now)..
And the SIS installer...Hmmm..Better learn that too.
Oh boy...Imagine a complete LoonyTheme.sis...Fully Free of charge..Made with a big smile for me and all you nice guys.....
Well....Better stop typing and start with the project...

it isnīt a problem to make personal themes for the CBA panel /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

you only need the program BMCONV.exe (delivered with the SDK) and 1-4 BMPīs 130*200 pixels and a Text editor.

first you copie bmconv.exe and the bmpīs
into the same folder, then you open the Text editor and write a file like these

anyname.mbm
/c24yourpic.bmp
/c24yourpic2.bmp
/c24yourpic3.bmp

etc. ...

save it as anyname.txt

c24 stays for the resolution, c16 stands for 16bit, c24 for 24bit (looks best, i think)

there are other resolutions too, but i donīt know them yet.

then go into dosprompt to the folder where the are prog and the pictures and type

bmconv anyname.txt

if all is correct the screen looks like these

BMCONV version 103.
Compiling...
Multiple Bitmap store type File store
Epoc file anyname.mbm

Bitmap file 1 yourpic1.BMP
Bitmap file 2 yourpic2.BMP
Bitmap file 3 yourpic3.BMP
success.

now rename the mbm to display.mbm
and copy it on your 9210 into the folder /system/data/

The new CBA Theme is only one restart away /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif

hope it helps....

Best Regards LFO

Ok so you wanna have them on your 92xx

Heres how..

Right click and save target as. loony.mbm

Tear off the battery and reboot the 92xx

Well....There it is.

I made them in 16bit to minimize the workload on memory, and the CPU in load processes.

Its my guess that the Nokia 9210 is only expecting an mbm file with a certainnumber of frames in it, hence it will only be able to use the first four. It may also be the case that the four name are hardcoded in (you can't encode information like that into mbm's), and might not be possible to change them.

Thanks to everyone for their contribution on this. I'll put any display.mbm files in the downloads directory (I'll get to it ASAP, but there's other thing on the list right now... /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Lol, i thought the webmaster would know /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif
Well the names of the graphics can be changed in display.rsc BUT don't make the names longer as they are now, or it won't work. And indeed you can't use more than 4 graphics per mbm, as display.app is designed to deal with only 4 graphics

Yes Truly nice program indeed.. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif Thanx.

But am I the only one, who only can make the .mbmīs in grayscale....
The colour options when I want to convert are ghosted away. ?

And still...Im doing them in 4 bit 16 Colours..
is it possible to tweak them up to 24bit..
The wise man LFO (wonder if he really is so Low Frequency..he he) once wrote

Quote

Thats cool...But...
Hmmm....
Well mine looks like this

loony.mbm
/c16kujon.bmp
/c16world.bmp
/c16print.bmp
/c16wave.bmp
/c16eye.bmp

But as I said im doing them in 4 bit.. so according to everything it shold say c4/ ?

Anyways...Iīll experiment with different 24 bit versions.
But a pointer from the masters in here would be nice /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Oh...Almost forgot....Is it true that you have to have a fifth file in there to get all 4...Otherwise my machine only converts the first 3...Strange.

Many smiles.....

Jan

Well, it's much easier to make color mbmfiles on a psion using MBMView. So i make them this way.

Jan

Rafe
29-09-2001, 10:22 AM
XNview does not support colour mbm files (or t least not their creation), hence I didn;t mentioned it earlier. As I think I said the eastiest way to create mbms is on a Psion!

I have had a quick looks through the docs re the colour issue

Quote from docs
/bpp -
Specifies the number of bits per pixel to be used for each converted bitmap (bmp-file) and whether the converted bitmap should be colour or gray-scale. The default is 2 bits per pixel. The options are /1, /2, /4, /8, /c4, /c8, /c12, /c16 or /c24.

So basically c24 is the highest. I guess the thing to check might be your source image.

From the command line you can use bmpconv so
bmconv /hbmexmpl.h bmexmpl.mbm /4smiley.bmp /1hangman.bmp /c16abstract.bmp

The following command line creates the multi-bitmap file bmexmpl.mbm, and adds to it the 4 bit grey-scale windows bitmap smiley.bmp, the 1 bit grey-scale windows bitmap hangman.bmp and the 16 colour windows bitmap abstract.bmp.

Interestingly
The /hbmexmpl.h option in the command line causes the Bitmap Converter to create a C++ header file (bmexmpl.h). The header file contains an enumeration for the multibitmap, so that EPOC applications can access its stored bitmaps.

(Along with packing for Uni, moving to a new server - dont worry you shouldn't notice anything when the time comes).. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif

Reason for crash Maybe it is expecting files / mbms with only a certain number of colour in it? I know that for example certain icons on the old Psion5 could only be four different grayscale colours? Perhaps something similar here?

Lets say you take all you want and just link to the original source with a tiny font size 1 link. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif
Im just happy it got my custom textures after a long struggle.

One thing puzzels me thoug..I canīt seem to get a seemles weld between the Menu texture and the Wallpaper..It seems like the system wants to draw a shadow between the two...Is that so.??
I tryed ALL resolutions but no matter what..IT`S THERE..
We are only talking about 2 pixels or so...But It would be perfect to have it seamless..

Ohh..Pack 2 is already there.

It is not commercial! I though I explained it clear enough. Many people offered support for My-Communicator.com. I have no other possibility to receive donations, since money transfers to Polish banks are very expensive. This way people can donate the site and also get something in exchange. It is DONATION first of all - and the textures are only a gift and "thank you". It's all written on my page. Please, read.

Hi Michael,

I fully understand your point! I find this a very original way to get support for your site, and btw you don't force nobody to buy it. Who made a problem of this?

Jan

Loony - I think that the Nokia adds the shading to contrast between the CBA and the background deliberately. I think it is automatically added to all the CBA backgrounds. You can see it in most screenshots. Normally its not as noticeabale because the existing skins aren't like your seamless ones.

First of all it's soo stupid of Nokia to hard code the Textures names, and the quantity of it in Display Settings, and since the 9210 uses alot of mbm shouldn't the Image viewer has the option to save as mbm ??

I managed to convert the bmps to mbm, but when I restarted the image in the right side appeard "blurred" (I think it writes like this) as if the image was to short or to big... but the size is the same as the original pic.. even when I reduce it happens the same..
anyhelp would be great
thanx /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

This problem is because different apps change the size of the right panel, so after investigation, myself and Loonyworld have come to the conclusion that 113x200 pixels is the best size for those images. Obviously these will look clipped in some views, but it stops it being too small in others.

Oh and keep your eyes open as myself and loony are throwing ideas around for the difinative guide for making skins for the 9210.

BTW - TANKERx get in touch and we can use your info in our skinning guide for the skinning of apps and icons etc....
