I've just tried the demo of the OS mapping software ViewRanger for the N80 (released today for S60v3) and this is a thing of beauty. Full 1:50000 OS maps of the UK with some areas down to 1:25000. Go try, it's awesome. I particularly like the ability to take pictures along a route and attach them as points of interest to your map.

Whilst the whole of the UK comes in at a whopping 2.9GB, they have helpfully chopped it up into 23 areas, as you're unlikely to need all of them at once. there's also a 21MB 1:1million overview of GB available.

And I thought my 1GB card would last me a while, with a handful of mp3, photos and videos. Ha! Now, where's there a cheap 2GB card.....?

They don't tell you where to put the trial maps to demo the software. I have three files (.VRC, .VRH & .VRM) Where should these be installed?

It does if you read carefully. I missed it the first time too and had a re-read when I couldn't load any maps.

Anyway, you need to create a directory off the root directory (presumably of your memory card) called Viewranger and put everything in there. When you unzip the maps, separate folders are created too. Make sure you copy these too (with their contents).

Hope this helps. failing this, contact support at Viewranger. I got an almost immediate answer to my query.

I'm a new ViewRanger user and yes its great, the support is second to none with almost instant and accurate replies to queries via email by Mike Brocklehurst. Hopefully I won't get as lost as I normally do on my cycling and walking trips on Dartmoor! ;)
