I heard that you should overcharge the first time after buying it for a longer lasting battery. Is this true or should I just charge till it's done?

View Full Version : How long should I charge? xen 09-05-2005, 02:13 PM I heard that you should overcharge the first time after buying it for a longer lasting battery. Is this true or should I just charge till it's done? N/A 09-05-2005, 05:05 PM Three hours should be enough for any Li-Ion battery according to this: http://www.buchmann.ca/Chap4-page8.asp dominator 10-05-2005, 07:19 AM The first charge MUST be long! About 6-8 hours. N/A 10-05-2005, 08:00 AM Well, according to the article I posted a link to (above), for Lithium-Ion batteries it isn't needed. Li-Ion chargers will charge for 1 hour + 2 hours to "top it off" and then nothing. Based on that, anything after 3 hours is not accomplishing anything. So, dominator, when you say "MUST", do you have some expertise or other information sources to back up the claim? dominator 10-05-2005, 07:53 PM Well thats what they told me at the store when i was buying the phone. But if it doesnt have to be charged for that long the first time then better. But i wouldnt risk it, cuz in previous nokia phones the battery had to be charged for long the first time other wise it wouldnt work as good in future. themafia.69 10-05-2005, 08:36 PM leave the first charge until its done, usually takes more than 8 hours about 10 or 12 the better you charge it the first time, the better your battery life in the future Proud_Iranian 10-05-2005, 10:43 PM The Charger that comes with the 3230 is quite slow.... x8 speed! Which takes about 3 hours to fully charge... which is really bad! Other chargers now are x12 (such as the ones that come with the 7610/6670/6600/6630/6680/etc).... which charge fully at around 1 hour and a half! The reason Nokia provided a slow charger with the 3230, i think is because it was trying to cut costs, making the phone cheap as possible! ;) dominator 11-05-2005, 03:47 AM well i still got the charger from 6600, so not worrying about that. |
