Hey everyone.

I don't have a proper wireless adsl router, I have a USB adsl modem which plugs into my PC, which then shares the connection over my wireless router. Can the 9500 use the windows connection?

Help is much appreciated.

As long as you have the wireless router then yeah the Nokia 9500 can use that connection.

Hmm, thanks for the info. I'm having some problems connecting to my home network. I'm using Windows XP SP 2 internet connection sharing, but my 9500 doesn't appear to be connecting. It can see the network fine, with "excellent" reception, but refuses to connect to the web. I have a laptop in the house which can use the wirless net fine. Can anyone suggest what I may be missing?

First of all, how does your computer connect to the router? Also check to see if it has got an ip of 192.168.0.1 DHCP also needs to be on to assign the ip to the Nokia 9500.

My PC connects to the router by ethernet wire, and my IP is 168.192.0.1, and DHCP is turned on by the router.

Any further things I should check?

Is your ip really 168.192.0.1 or is that a spelling mistake. It should be 192.168.0.1 otherwise the Windows connection wont be shared.

Yeah, it was a typo, my ip is the correct one.

Wireless still not working though :(

I found that for my home wirless to work I had to manually put in an ip address under my wifi connection on my 9500 and my dns server ip addresses. I still can't get public open wifi access points to work through the Easy Wlan configuration.

Ok thats good. You said you have got a laptop that shares the wireless connection. Can you check what ip it gets. It should get an ip of 192.168.0.---
This is to ensure your DHCP is working properly and assigning ip addresses. Also on your computer, assuming you have Windows XP, click on Start and then My Computer, then My Network Places, View Network Connections, right click on your LAN adapter and then properties, select TCP/IP and then properties, then Advanced, then WINS and Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

Hey guys, thanks for the help so far. I've enabled NetBios but still no luck. Yeah, my laptop gets a 192.168.0 address.

I've also put in the ip and gateway details in my access point settings under "internet settings" and *still* no joy. Arg! Any further ideas?

One further piece of information: after manually entering in the IP and gateway settings on the 9500, it now appears to take longer trying to connect before it brings me back to the "choose a connection" screen.

Try changing the channel of your router. Someone did it and it worked.

I changed the channel to a couple of different ones, still no luck :(

Okay, I've finally managed to get it to say it's "connected" by putting the 9500 in ad-hoc mode.

But now when I try and load a web page it says "No route" after about three minutes of trying... Any takers?
