Are J2ME apps actually supposed to work on the A925? I find that they install as if nothing is wrong, then when you run them they say "Running MIDlet...", and then nothing happens. The text goes away, the MIDlet doesn't start.

Has anyone else seen this happen?

Hey guys,

I also had this problem when I just copied the JAR/JAD files to my A920 (with A925 software update). However, when you copy only the JAD file to the A920 and then download the JAR (by just starting the JAD file), then the installation really works and you can start the Midlet afterwards. Of course this meands that the JAD must contain a valid download URL (i.e. fully qualified http://somehost.somedomain/somepath/somemidlet.jar).

I have tested several Midlets already, notably Spruce Driver (my favorite for testing as it works on almost all handsets), FunSnake, and others.

Cheers,

hi

yeah I got my java games as a big bundle of jar&jad files, the problem being I don't have gprs on my account, but all the jad files want to refer me to the web in order to install....

anyway it's not too hard to hack the jad files, they're just plain text (although i've seen them in a variety of dos/unix/mac text formats), just find the line ... uh, hold on lemme check ...

MIDlet-Jar-URL:

and instead of putting a full http://etc link, just put the filename. If you've already got the jar file in the same directory, it should find it fine. I also strip out any other fields that have an http link, sometimes these are little pages that track when the game is installed/uninstalled.

as for the games which -seem- to install OK but then never run, I think that they're just plain incompatible with the A920. some games seem to be making some pretty restrictive assumptions (size of screen, etc), and I doubt those will ever work properly.

a couple of jad files i've found were corrupted, here's one of mine that works and i like, for you to see what they're supposed to look like:

MicroEdition-Configuration: CLDC-1.0
MicroEdition-Profile: MIDP-1.0
MIDlet-Name: Repton
MIDlet-1: Repton, /icon.png, Repton
MIDlet-Icon: /icon.png
MIDlet-Version: 1.1.0
MIDlet-Vendor: Masabi
MIDlet-Jar-Size: 53656
MIDlet-Jar-URL: Repton.jar
Nokia-MIDlet-Category: Game
