View Full Version : Release date?
carcomptoy 05-03-2004, 04:43 AM WHEN IS THE RELEASE DATE ON THIS WONDERFUL SMARTPHONE?! I have been dying from my Nokia 3650, and not just from unreliability of the actual phone. I hate how it's so cheaply made...I've also been dying for a flip-phone. The Samsung SGH-D700 is the phone I'm meant to have!
carcomptoy 05-03-2004, 05:43 AM Does anyone know if the D700 will get a speakerphone...?
langdona 05-03-2004, 01:15 PM I doubt that the D700 will ever appear. Its no longer on the Symbian phones page (http://www.symbian.com/phones/index.html). However there were rumours that Samsung are developing a different Series 60 based device. Lets hope they are and they announce it soon possibly at CeBit? (http://www.cebit.de/homepage_e?x=1)
Anyway the Panasonic X700 (http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news.php?id=20668) is very similar to what the D700 was meant to be anyway.
carcomptoy 06-03-2004, 12:37 AM What the Samsung D700 on that site before anyways?
langdona 06-03-2004, 09:31 AM I'm 95% sure it was there as comming soon before they last updated to page with the X700 etc.
carcomptoy 07-03-2004, 11:50 PM Dang Samsung! I love the brand and all, but please be smart and release the D700. I'm sorry, no matter what anyone says, the X700 is still inferior to the D700!
carcomptoy 12-03-2004, 01:02 AM Well, guess what? It seems as though Samsung will still release the D700. One website is offering pre-orders and is saying the ETA Release Date is the 20th of March THIS YEAR. I hope this is a beacon of light for those who are dying for this phone as I am. The website is:
http://www.celluloco.com/products/customer/product.php?productid=73&cat=4&page=1&tab=features
The SGH-D710 was just announced. Chances are that means the D700 is no more?
The SGH-D710 is a slide-style phone. Very annoying. I loved the flip & twist style of the D700.
:(
carcomptoy 18-03-2004, 02:55 AM Where did you find out about the D710? I looked on the actual Samsung website and they don't show a D710, much less a Symbian OS phone!
GhostDog 18-03-2004, 11:12 AM http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21290
http://www.samsung.com/DigitAll/GlobalExhibition/01_cebit.htm#
The 2004 link pops-up an exhibition window. Go to Products, then Mobile Communications.
It doesn't list the D710. It does however list four other Samsung phones:
SGH-z105 (standard clam)
SGH-e800 (sliding camera shell -- the D710?)
SGH-p730 (swivel & flip camera clam)
SGH-i500 (swivel & flip clam Palm OS)
SGH-v4400 (swivel & flip camera clam CDMA)
You can download brocheres, but the links aren't active yet?
the Design Award Winners also lists:
SCH-X800
SPH-x9100
carcomptoy 18-03-2004, 07:14 PM How can you be sure that the E800 is the replacement for the D700? I mean, it's a far cry from the D700 and the website states nothing about it being a Symbian OS phone...what makes you so sure?
I don't know if it's a replacement. I'm making the connection of:
d700 cancelled? -> d710 announced, and it's a slider phone -> e800 only slider phone at cebit.
I personally loved the design of the d700, so I'm by no means happy with the guesstimation.
carcomptoy 18-03-2004, 11:55 PM Where did you hear of an announcement of the new D710 because personally, I haven't found anything on this mystery phone!
It was here on the front page of All About Symbian. Yesterday (?)

carcomptoy 19-03-2004, 07:20 AM They should have so kept the flip style design!

I disagree. I REALLY like this design (except for the external antenna, which infosyncworld claims it has)
carcomptoy 19-03-2004, 05:46 PM Well, it looks great, but I'm just worried about size....I mean, it looks like our phones went from big to small to big again!
carcomptoy 19-03-2004, 05:47 PM Also, does anyone know how long the D710 will be able to record? Will it have the same capabilities as the Nokia 7610?
I took some time to mull this over... but I prefer flip to anything else. It guarantees a small pocket size, with an open size that'll fit your ear-mouth area.
Plus (the big one), the screen won't get scratched up when you're simply carrying it.
Delta737 21-03-2004, 05:56 PM Probably no bluetooth on the D710 though:(
