View Full Version : 'open lock' symbol in phone display

08-11-2001, 10:07 AM
While using my phone abroad I suddenly discovered the symbol of an open lock in the phone display. The symbol itself is not explained in the user guide.

What does it mean??

Greetings,

Hello,

One question, that open lock that appears is just an icon that does nothing or it is the one that appears to introduce the password to unlock the Communicator?

Hi, don't know what it means exactly, but it is something that your network provider sents.... sorry for the bad english

Oh yeah, has nothing to do with 9210 in special, saw it also on my 8210 and on a 6210... calling from Proximus Belgium

I have 3.54. And as we all know, the network does not send icons, it sends a signal to signal something. I saw the symbol when the phone was trying to roam in another country (but it couldn't find a roaming network). So in this case there was no network that could send something useful.
BTW I have thought of the symbol meaning 'no access to network', but found the *open* lock not the best icon to represent that.

The un shut padlock means thet encrytption is turned off

crypting of the vox or data or fax call that is

this can be for various reasons

see GSM protocoles

but mostly because of netork overloads

and when roaming before logging on for the first time

Its nothing to worry about unless it stays on for a long time

Chris

PS This doesnt mean that your being tapped.
