According to the site below, the P800 has a 200Mhz processor, anyone have info. to confirm/deny this.

Just cos it might be capable of 200Mhz doesnt mean it's working at that speed in the unit - more like lower speed to save battery power. But - hopefully it's MUCH faster than the 9210 (toooooooo slowwwwwwww Nokia - OK!)

How about software controllable CPU's - the user decides what speed to rate it at?

i heard it was an arm 9 @ 52Mhz

i heard it was an arm 9 @ 52Mhz

puke! that's almost the same as a 33mhz 9110! and it can run 3D games? :o

Difference being that the 9110 ran on a CISC 486 chip and the ARM 9 is a RISC chip, so even if it was at the same clock speed it should still run about twice as fast.

it's a pda and a mobile phone but not that good at either really. if you want a decent mobile phone capable of mms that you can slip in your shirt pocket then the p800 can do mms but you cant slip it in your pocket.

if you want a pda then the p800 is ok but if the rrp is £350 or over then there are so many pda's that are way better than the p800 for the same price. I was told by the carphone warehouse that the p800 was gonna be £500 with a contract (although i think the sales assistant was talking nonsense) which would buy you a ipaq.

it's not a quite a phone, it's not quite a pda, it's a future kitcsh object that wont quite work. shades of nokia 7110 if you ask me.[/quote]

Hmm, check out Arm9 at www.arm.com and Arm9 processors run at 250MHz. Its faster compaq Ipaq which has armstrong processor running at 200mhz

I found this on a sweedish website. It's a comparisson of the p800 and the 7650. Sorry about the translation...

Both telephones offer into approximately the same that means the
following: GRPS, HSCSD, Bluetooth, infrared, WAP 1,2,1, MMS and
playing MIDlets, naturally it also each quantity of software for these
two products will give, both does not use to Symbian OS, which already
already supports Sony version 7.0 whatever Ansich UMTS, with 7650 is I
at all surely whether 6,0, 6,1 or is likewise 7,0 integrated?!?
Both Handys contain an Arm-9 (52Mhz) processor, thus the same as 9210
and the 9210i and likewise stand "only" for 8 MT SD RAM as main
memories for the order, thus are those telephone likewise apart from
the display compatible to 9210! The strongest deficiency is however
which one with none of the two telephones an extension card put in
can, speaks the user memory is with 7650 only 4 MT largely, with the
P800 nevertheless 16 MT which not straight particularly many photos
let alone programs permits, with this deficiency has the manufacturers
of my opinion after the telephones already the mortal blow shifted, I
hopes that still corrected before the two approx.. July 2002 on the
market come, otherwise wÓrd it probably sooner or later many
disappointed user give!
A disadvantage with the Sony is surely the nevertheless quite
sensitive flap those probably very fast broke off and the pin which
one lose can, but the "special writing" recognition functions very
fast, with the Nokia must one however with the numeric key block its
texts type.....ich is very strained like these telephones to sell
itself, can these however so far really recommend if one not still
another SD Card or MMC Card Slot inserts or enormously increases the
memory!!!

They might have 200MHz arm92?t processor inside..but that bastard is so unstabile that they can't get it to work with Symbian OS.. I except p800 hits to market at Q2 or Q3 /03. As the latest news said they have serious problems with p800 in sweden, manufacturing is moved to France..
P800 might be the biggest hoax of the decade. BTW if someone can get proto or something, try java benchmark and compare it to 7650...

Q2/Q3 2003, you must be the most pesamistic guy on the entire forum. :D Who knows, you might even be right.

Anyway, I'm probably off to a rival camp. At least until the Nokia 9310 comes out (9210i with USB, bluetooth, faster processor and more executable memory).

Probably the new Sony NX, though their Proprietary tendencies are very off putting.

The P800 has an ARM 9 and runs Jazelle (the Java accelerator), ARM list only one chipset with these two charateristics, the ARM926EJ-S which can be clocked between 180 and 250 MHz or 200 to 275 MIPS.

Yep but there is no pure arm chip inside. There are several peripherals and memory controllers on the same die. Arm does not manufacture chips, they just license processor models. Propably p800 have some 920 variant surrounded 3rd party logic.

To add some more information to the confusion, we have a prototype
P800 for development. The Symbian function

HALGet(HALDataECPUSpeed, ...)

returned 156000 on my unit.

Maybe that's interpreted as 156MHz?
