Interesting. Good spot. I was wondering when news about the Sendo smartphone would come out. Hopefully Sendo will confirm this soon.

I'll just move this post to the general Series 60 forum.

It's a bit bland in design as the rest of S60 phones usually go (With funny keypads and strange ways of opening), but it's got some nice specs.

I'm sure it'll do great :)

As far as i know although Sendo is a very small company they are very repspectable,at least in the UK.

I like the design, plan and simple, with a regular keyboard, completely oposite to the funky looking 3650.But then again, that's just my taste.

Its just a shame we're going to have to wait for it in the UK according to this (http://news.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/mobile/0,39020360,39117275,00.htm) ZDNet article Spain and Italy get it first.

"The Sendo X will be available first in southern Europe -- Spain and Italy," Marijke van Hooren, Sendo's communications director, told ZDNet UK. "It will be available in the UK either towards the end of the year or at the beginning of 2004, depending on approvals."

Never mind as good as the Sendo X looks I think I'm sold on the P900 ;)

By the way I keep wanting to abbreviate this device to the SX but thats going to get very confusing with the Siemens SX1 :D

Remember our old friend jpzr? I hope somebody could tell him that developing an application that has similar idea than in some other application, is not stealing technology: http://msmobiles.com/news.php/1501.html

He does write some absolute complete pish!....no wonder he is never invited to any MS events, they are embarrassed to have him as a MS supporter.

He clearly needs to seek some help, preferably from an asylum.

And he forgets that the smartphone concept was invented by Symbian.

Has anybody noticed in the press release under control the following:

"voice recognition and voice memo software is included The voice command feature enables quick dialling of the entire phonebook and access to many functions, without the need to record voice tags."

Does this mean I could wear a Bluetooth headset and dial anybody in my phone book, without recording vioce tags for all of them? And control some of the phones other features.

If that is true, then that is a killer application for a mobile phone in fact for any mobile device.

No it wasn't. Far from it.

It's hard to say just who was the first real smartphone, I'm not sure about this. It also comes down to definitions.

You have the Motorola Accompli series and the Ericsson R380 - the latter used a cut down version of Symbian, but none of them had an open OS (no 3'rd party applications).

Then you have the Nokia Communicator 9110 (running GEOS) and the Treo 180 (running Palm OS 3.5), but I have no idea when these two were released, but I'm assuming the Communicator came first...

That's by the definition that for a phone to be called a "smartphone" it has to be running a real, open OS (3'rd party apps/PDA functions).

So my bet is on the Nokia Communicator 9110 (please correct me if I'm wrong). :)

Well the Nokia 9000 communicator was earlier.

I found this on the Nokia site.

"The Nokia 9000 Communicator for GSM networks was introduced last year and sales first started in August 1996. The Nokia 9000 Communicator is in volume production and is currently sold in some 30 GSM countries in Europe and Asia. "

Can anyone find anything earlier? :)

I think Symbian were the first people to use the phrase smartphone or at least bring it into common usage. Although I agree that the early Nokia comminicators were smartphones by our current definitions ;)
