View Full Version : Converting 3gp to MPEG?

12-03-2003, 04:58 PM
I've tried searching the archives and have found lots of threads about how to watch .3gp files on a PC using Nokia's player, but what i really want to do is to export them in a different, more commonly playable format so iI can mail them to people without having to explain how to install the Nokia app.

Is there some way of converting a .3gp to an MPEG, or even an MP4?

Cheers,

Ciaran

My understanding is that the 3gp files are MP4 video files. Rename them to *.mp4. You can nowencode them as MPEG using the latest version of Quick Time Pro

My 3gp files was recorded by Hantro 3.4

I think they are the same program. The only program that allows you to increase the size is Hipcam, but the 7650 version is not available yet. You can use the 3650 version, but you need a program like Hantro to playback your videos at present

I've also tried renaming .3gp into .mp4 to play them with QuickTime v6 but sound was missing! There might be an upgrade from QuickTime site but firewall prevents me to download it.

I tried using Nokia Player, downloaded from nokia.com, and that one crashes!

I heard DivX player could do the job, still have to download it.

This happened with me too using Hantro 3.3 (the one with the voda logo) but Hantro 3.4 (the nokia release) play back fine, as do HipCam files.

To convert mpg/avi to 3gp to play videos on your phone - use Nokia Suite for 3650 - it will automatically contert 'on the fly' as the file is transfered to the phone! ;)

Neat!!

3gp and mp4 are not the same,QuickTime can read, convert etc etc mp4 files only.
If you want to convert mpg files to mp4 try using Virtaul Dub(Search google) and PVauthor from www.pv.com

Actually they aren't. Videos recorded with 3650 camcorder includes H.263 encoded video and AMR encoded audio wrapped into 3gp-file format.

3gp files are different from MP4 files. 3gp files are defined by 3gpp partnership project. Real player will play these files. MP4 is ISMA Internet streaming media alliance.

Where exactly, maybe its easier/better then my method. The raw avi is large and im having a bit of trouble with frame rates.......

As the the link I posted all my own work I had to work it out from other sites and in the end created a concise guide (with pics!!)

What an unusually unhelpful mod!!!

I would have thought a smart idea would be to create a digest or guide to this and point the thread towards it. Im not the only one whos had this query.

Instead you seem to spend your time being unhelpful and facetious (i've read some of your other replys)

oh well i wont come again :(
