It should have a touch screen like p800. Symbian v 7.x are designed for devices with touchscreens like p800. But i don't think it should have the 7650 name on it.

Not quite true. Basically all Symbian OS versions (including 6.0 and 6.1) support touchscreen. There is a method for that in the API: CCoeControl::HandlePointerEventL but both Crystal (N9210) and Series 60 (N7650/3650, S SX1) UI librarys do not have implementation for that, and also the hardware does not have support for that.

MemphisX has mixed up Symbian 7 with UIQ (which runs symbian 7). The difference is in the platform and not the OS. It will probably be runing series 60 which is designed for use with one hand only , which rules out the touch screen :D

But I have read somewhere (I don't remember where) that symbian ver 7 is specifically designed for devices with touchscreens.

Also we don't know if this 7650+ will use the series60 UI (it might use the legendary series 90 and be the next communicator(series80) alternative).

For me it sounds more like a vaporware.
But only time will tell.

And I insist that 7650+ is not a good name to use...

After reading the specs of symbian 6.x and 7.0 at www.symbian.com I noticed that ver 6.x can also support pen based devices. As I can recall from my memory the site I have read about was a review for the P800 saying that it uses symbian ver7 which was developed having pen based devices in mind.Sorry but I got wrong information.
But there are no info for symbian ver 7.1 anywhere.

So for me 7650+ is vaporware (like the "bluetooth battery with memory" thread which was posted last year) at least until I see sth relative on www.nokia.com or www.symbian.com or better www.forum.nokia.com .

Definitely vaporware. First of all, their naming convention has never had '+' in model names. Sometimes 'i' but usually when the device has been somewhat improved version.

But a device based on Symbian OS 7.x is not a 'plus' or 'improved' version of 7650. It's totally different kind of device.

I've got to add my two pence here.

Staff from The Link are NOT going to be the first people in the industry to know about a 7650+ or I or any other new phone; they are amongst the last. Add to this the fact that DSG is not considered a very important entity within the global industry and that sales staff at retailers are considered as being even lower in the prioirty chain.

Nokia would also be silly to announce the phone on the 24th AFTER Cebit which is where everyone else will be announcing new phones.

Now, who's next with baseless rumours? :D

WOW - finally the proof we were looking for.
Found this on another thread:-
There were pictures too!!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guess what has turned up today from Nokia R+D
Yep - amonst others a 7650i !!!!!
It looks exactly like the 7650 but with a metalic blue casing.
The MMC card goes under the battery the same as the 3650 - the pic above is a fake - you do not 'send' images to the MMC - in 'settings' you can choose to 'save' the images to the MMC.
Firmware is version: 1.34 25-11-2002 nhl-8, which was the same as our 3650's and the same as my personal 3650 bought from China.
Now, wheather this phone is for developers only I do not know - maybe it's an early '3650' that went out to the developers and we happen to have one in our box I'm not sure, we were sent the beta 3650 months back so I don't know why this would be here.
Maybe it is a 'public' release phone maybe just for developers as we were always complaining of the linited memory when beta testing many applications at once.
The Nokia rep will be here tomorrow to showcase these phone, I'll give you more details then.
Perhaps even it's the 7650+ that people are talking about??

When I get more info I'll send it across.

look guys i dont mind a 7650+ but , why the damn trouble of making it "7650" ??? it would make the price low since there is a earlier version of it , they could make it a differnt phone not a second version , and if it is true they would have made is a 7650i like 9210i and 9110i and 8910i and 3510i not a " + " .
