I wonder if it's possible to write and MP3 program for 7650 which plays an mp3 file as ringtone when you get a call.
There are some great Symbian developers out there and many companies (Psiloc for example) proven that it's very possible to write programs which modify system files of the phone. Extended Profiles comes to my mind, the program is auto loaded in the 7650 memory (you don't need to run it everytime to activate it) and improves a lot 7650's profile support.
There are also programs to change the sound alarm which everyone thought was impossible and there are programs like WildSkins to change the aspect of the 7650's menu.
MP3 players for 7650 are kinda useless on this phone due to the memory limitation (maybe on 3650...). What would be instead VERY useful would be a program to use mp3 files as ringtones. We could save lots of space for our wav ringtones and still keep great quality (amr suck). A wav file of 600k would be just a few kb converted in .mp3.

What do you guys think?

i am sure that MP3 like a ringtone it's possible...

but! i don't think that could be worth it..

Remember the Memory thing... if you use a short Mp3 file
(50kb 56, 64, 128 kbits) like a ring tone.. may be work... but for less memory use and same sound quality you can use GSM Audio (over wav codec)

That kind of wav file at 32kbits/sec. use the same memory space like Mp3, but make better sound quality, because Mp3 was not developed to sound goof with too smaller bit rates, like AMR or GSM audio (over wav).

The GSM Audio codec came with Win XP ... you need a Sound program to make the convertion or save as wav but using GSM codec.

i use Sound Forge 6.0, but i think there are many small sound programs that can work too.

Also if for any reason you don't like the gsm encoding you can use the ADPCM codec. Same quality with half size. For informatio on encoding, i had made some time ago a thread in the series 60 multimedia: "nice trick to save some space )" or sth like that is the name of the thread.)))))Ps: i am trying to find a gsm 6.20 codec. It is supposed to have the same quality with 6.10 but in lower bitrates...
