Guest writer Zach Goldberg has been living with the new Nokia N95-3, the USA-spec 3G model with bigger battery and more RAM. Here's his detailed report, listing all the bits he did (including the fact that the N93-3 stands up on its side!) and didn't like (including, interestingly, that boot up time is slower).

Read on in the full article (http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news/item/6184_For_the_USA_Youll_want_it_with.php).

As I'm an American in the market to replace the N95 I picked up in London, are there any really reputable vendors that people recommend so I don't have use eBay for this again?

Thanks

Zach, thanks for the great review! I have a N75 on AT&T and I have experienced a few of those "dead calls" you mention, but not often. I have not tried playing with the settings you mention.

Unreal, go to www.nseries.com/open and click on "where to buy" and you can find some of the retailers Nokia seems to trust.. I am thinking of ordering from Datavision as they seem to have the best price ($609).

"Unreal," Dell.com is taking orders for the N95-3, and you can also get the phone directly from Nokia at n-series.com or from a Nokia Flagship store.

thanks :) you guys rule
awesome article too, i can't wait to get mine...now if only we knew why demand paging was slowing down the startup time. that was a painfully long time to wait for a phone to start up!

what, no clicking noise on the camera? other reason to upgrade...

Unrealtechno: The N95-3 *doesn't* have demand paging. That's why it's slow 8-)

"The most important change of all: Video Center is now spelt correctly! Silly Europeans and their "centre""

:) It's the English way of spelling.

so the old european N95 has demand paging but the new N95-3 doesn't?

AFAIK, its just the 8GB version that has it. But is it something that can be "easily" (nothing is easy in cell phones, arguably the most complicated pieces of consumer electronics out there.. something we tend to forget.. err... too easily ;)) added with a firmware upgrade?

If it was a "center" then it would cent, but I don't think is does any centing therefore it is a centre.

A runner runs, a boxer boxes. A centre does not cent, a metre does not met.

Understand the difference? It's the English way of spelling.

Ah, and while we're here (I know this is a long shot) but can an N95-3 do video calls on cingular?? Didn't occur to me until now, but that would be awesome if it did ;)

Nope. Has to be supported by carrier and ATT is a ways away from supporting video calls.

ATT does support it actually (i think it's $.35/min) or something thereabouts and both parties have to be in 3G coverage and have capable phones. Only one of us here has a 3G phone that supports video calling so we can't do any tests. nuts
