View Full Version : The verdict: Nokia N95 8GB
slitchfield 22-10-2007, 02:06 PM Is the Nokia N95 8GB the best smartphone ever made? There's an awful lot to it, including some features which don't yet rise to their potential, plus a number of potential pitfalls, but on balance no other 'phone' ever created comes close. Within the limits of the QVGA screen and numeric keypad form factor, the '8GB' takes it to the limit in almost every department. Here's my illustrated Nokia N95 8GB review.

slitchfield 22-10-2007, 02:36 PM No, it's still all plastic and light years from the build strength of the E90. But yes, it does seem well made. Mind you, different batches will always vary... let's hope for the best!
malerocks 22-10-2007, 02:52 PM You think Nokia will abandon the original n95 too after the n95 8GB starts selling? Like they abandoned the n93 after the n93i came in...
Unregistered 22-10-2007, 03:24 PM Is there any chance you can review the N95-3 (North American Edition) that just came out? It seems to be about "halfway" in between the old N95 and the N95 8GB. I don't know if we got demand paging, for instance, although we did get the bigger battery and increase in RAM. We still have the MicroSD slot, but also the smaller screen and "old" menu layout. There are other differences, though, and I'm wondering if we will get some of the new features in a firmware update.
neilhoskins 22-10-2007, 03:33 PM Completely bizarre that they've removed the video editor. Whenever I've tried to run it I run out of RAM, but they've dropped it as soon as there's a device with enough RAM to cope with it. Maybe the problems with the video editor aren't to do with RAM at all...
hargs48 22-10-2007, 03:57 PM Well written review Steve.I was wondering if you could please post some screenshots of the phone running Handy Taskman with some of the common apps running in the background ie. Web,Contacts,Calender,Messaging,Gallery and so forth. This way we can get a even better idea what all this massive amount of RAM actually means.:icon14:
slitchfield 22-10-2007, 04:07 PM One of the screenshots in the review shows most of the apps open (little blue circles etc)
Steve
Unregistered 22-10-2007, 04:35 PM No physical lens protection is kind of a deal breaker.
A high quality 5mp chip behind a constantly dirty and sooner than later scratched lens ... awwww-some. :(
Wish they'd release the 95-3 in europe too. 8Gig cards cost just 100€ already and the smaller screen at the same rez just means crispier image quality. More ram and better battery was all the original n95 needed...
lifebloger 22-10-2007, 05:05 PM "Nokia has listened carefully to the feedback coming from early N95 users and has addressed just about every criticism and done it in style."
And now the early N95 users have to buy the new one !
It is regrettable on the part of Nokia! At least I hope that Nokia will be kind enough to offer anything to these early N95 users !!!
I can say now : me and Nokia it's simply the end !
slitchfield 22-10-2007, 05:50 PM Oh come on. every product in every walk of life gets improved on and a version 2 released. Hang on in there though, because I've got a gut feeling that there'll be a good new firmware out soon for the original N95....
Bobagent 22-10-2007, 09:19 PM Disclaimer: I've not played with the new N95 8GB so may be way off but.....
Steve you seem to like bashing the carousel multimedia interface...from afar it reminds me of 'front row' on the Mac.
I'm a long time Mac user but realise there is a distinction between managing my content e.g. iTunes, iPhoto etc but then viewing through a simpler interface e.g. Front Row
Like I say I've not seen the new multimedia interface in the flesh so be way off the mark but what seems to be seen as a useful addition to Os X seems to be a bit slated on S60
What's so bad about it?
Unregistered 22-10-2007, 09:33 PM Does anyone know where you can buy this phone online. Not even nokia's home page has it up on 'buy online'.?
fernando20 23-10-2007, 02:09 AM There's no Office folder? Aw...
When will S60 allow us to change the icon of the folders we created? I hate seeing all that same looking folders on my menu, the ones that comes with the phones are so much nicer.
hermida 23-10-2007, 05:00 AM I was wondering if we would get landscape n-gaging on the N95, would be weird to have the d pad on the right side, they could do the reverse landscape just like in the N81 and make 2 of the multimedia control keys act as game keys. would be nice, even in N95-1.
Unregistered 23-10-2007, 05:10 AM Hey,so while listening to music over built in speakers,it is mentioned in you earlier review that,ie90 is on par with N95.Does this still hold good against N95 8GB
slitchfield 23-10-2007, 07:15 AM Yes, there's an Office folder, with the usual suspects. Apart from the video editor, all the N95 original s/w is here etc.
re: the Carousel, maybe it's a personal thing. You'll have to try it yourself!!
Unregistered 23-10-2007, 09:04 AM Shame that there is no removable card. I frequently use mine to transfer data off and on via a card reader. On the whole though, a MUST HAVE. I WANT IT NOW. Few things in this category of products are worth the money to me, my N95 is wonderful and being worked to death. I intend to do the same to the 8GB.
Unregistered 23-10-2007, 09:13 AM I am repeating myself because i dint get a reply the last time:-
Hey,so while listening to music over built in speakers,it is mentioned in you earlier review that,ie90 is on par with N95.Does this still hold good against N95 8GB
slitchfield 23-10-2007, 09:35 AM Sound quality over speakers is identical to that on the original. Same hardware etc.
N95ROCKS 23-10-2007, 09:49 AM so that means that in the case of the new 95 8GB, e90 is better in terms of sound quality through ext speaker; correct me if i am wrong, thanks dude.
Unregistered 23-10-2007, 10:35 AM Hi. I'd really appreciate it if someone could clarify whether the 8gb N95 can play flash video / youtube video. Is this something OVI is meant to enable and if so how / when ?
I've just been playing on my daughters IPOD Touch and the internet and youtube apps are great and so the Iphone is a real draw at the moment, but I appreciate the N95 8GB is probably a better phone overall...decisions decisions !
Really appreciate it if anyone could advise.
Thanks.
slitchfield 23-10-2007, 12:44 PM I'm not going down the quality comparison route. Compared to headphone output, they're both rubbish, of course. 8-)
Re: YouTube, nothing's really changed. Mobile YouTube clips work OK, but Flash video doesn't. Same as on the iPhone and every other handheld....
Unregistered 23-10-2007, 01:34 PM It certainly has all the bells and whistles, but it's not that smart while it doesn't have a QWERTY keyboard.
I presented Nokia with an idea about how one could incorporate a full QWERTY keyboard on the N95, while maintaining the sliding out numeric keypad. Their response: "we're not interested". Oh well.....
unique-user 23-10-2007, 01:45 PM I use youtube on my N95 with tinytube.net . That works just fine. You can choose between a stream and a download of the video you searched for.. what else do you want?
Unregistered 23-10-2007, 02:10 PM That is a serious limitation and a step backward as the original N95 had it.
Mithent 23-10-2007, 04:18 PM YouTube videos on the iPhone just access http://m.youtube.com/ as far as I know, which you can do on the N95 also.. there's no support for Flash video on any phone, but Flash Lite 3 is supposed to implement that?
Unregistered 24-10-2007, 06:29 PM just recieved confirmation that my n95 8gb is in and is in the process of being shipped. I can't wait until it gets here!
viipottaja 24-10-2007, 07:18 PM Lol.. Unregistered, you claim they actually responded "not interested"? :) Anyway, they have their own design teams, so I doubt anyone can come up with a proposal they would not have already thought off.
Your first sentence is somehow familiar.. hmm.. is your real name Steve (blow) Jobbs? ;)
Steve: the expection on Flash are of course the Nokia internet tablets.. especially after the firmware update for N800 and the new N810 come out in a few weeks time.
jinx405 26-10-2007, 06:32 AM Hi Steve - great job on the review! I've a quick question (which is probably similiar to the comment above mine) - in terms of music quality, is it the same as the original N95, or better? Because Ricky Cadden over at Symbian Guru reports that the N81 is better than the original N95, so I was hoping that Nokia (hopefully) made the quality better for the N95 8GB as well.
Thanks!
tkao2025 26-10-2007, 11:08 AM Just bought my N95 8GB the other day from Nokia NYC Flagship store. To my surprise a couple of things. One is that the download application doesn't seem to include a lot of the applications you could get from the original N95.....there seems to be less programs..why??? Secondly Mail for Exchange 2.0 does not work on the new N95 8GB??? Again why would this happen? Thought they were completely same phone except for the design and 8GB onboard memory:con?
Steve would you have any idea when they will release the Mail for Exchange that will work with the new N95? On their business website it says to check back for the new version to work with the 8GB version...thanks
Unregistered 26-10-2007, 06:58 PM The Phone is nice and cute but aint Convenient. I do Like It and It is Powerfull
Unregistered 27-10-2007, 01:45 AM thanks steve! this is the best post on both devices. i've been wondering what changed from the original n95... i can't tell you how much buttons on the n95 annoy me. glad to see they responded to it's cheap feel (and light leaking through gaps). i'd also like to see a comment on the black n95. i've purchased a 6GB microSDHC for the extra needed space and i have learned to deal with half the RAM of the 8gb. can't wait for the next firmware update!
slitchfield 27-10-2007, 06:36 AM The lack of MfE and paucity of icons in Download! is only temporary. Remember that only a handful of people in the world own this model at the moment, Nokia reckon they've still got a few days to roll out everything they had planned.... Be patient! 8-)
Unregistered 27-10-2007, 11:29 PM Which firmware version does the N95 8GB use? Since there are little differences in hardware, I sure hope that they'll continue to release updates for the old N95, with a near-identical version.
Bonedatt 28-10-2007, 04:49 AM Great review Steve! now all that's left is bringing back the video editor and adding PDA functionality with a touch screen interface and it will become, absolutely, without any doubt.... the best phone ever made!!!

n95 8gb has firmware:
V 10.0.021
29/9/07
RM320
Nokia N95 60.01
Of course thats the vodafone version. Dunno what the sim-free N95 8GB will have.

Unregistered 01-11-2007, 04:27 PM The Nokia n95 is still the best phone out there!
Now I don't know if I should upgrade my nokia n95 to the 8gb:S
I want a shutter for the cam but I also need more ram.
Streaming off the internet is a failure with the nokia n95. They've improved it drastically on the 8gb one.
Hmmm... I guess i'll just get the 8gb for me and give this one to my gf :P
Overall the NOKIA N95 is the best out there!
NokiaCrazyFan 02-11-2007, 01:21 AM I really like the original n95.....plum color is just class, class! About the battery, can n95 8gb battery BL-6F work no problem in original n95 phone (battery BL-5F)? Also, wasn't improvement n95-3 phone carrying battery BL-6F?
Unregistered 04-11-2007, 03:33 PM You may want to start adding watermarks to your unboxing images, Steve.
Lots of crooks use them as their pictures for their eBay listings!
Unregistered 06-11-2007, 09:13 PM Installed, so yes it can.
Best smartphone ever? Commoooon.
Did you heard about Windows Mobile? N95 is only a toy against a WM device with VGA (640x480) screen, GPS SiRF III, 520 MHz processor. There are lots of this kind of WM devices around, and most of them are cheaper, open your eyes guys :)
Unregistered 08-11-2007, 07:09 PM Hello steve, i was wondering if theres a way to get the video editor of the n95 for the n95 8gb
thnx

Unregistered 17-11-2007, 06:17 AM one question... what is the difference between n95-1, n95-2, & n95-3 8gb verson?
Davescot 21-11-2007, 11:25 AM is the sound enhanced in external speakers in n95 8gb compared to the previous n95
I can't compare to the previous N95 but I think the sound quality from the loudspeakers is quite good, certainly alot better then the N73's tin cans.
mmoonsamy 23-11-2007, 06:43 AM I can't compare to the previous N95 but I think the sound quality from the loudspeakers is quite good, certainly alot better then the N73's tin cans.
infact, the sound quality much better - sounds like music coming from portable cd player - even at full volume

Are you saying you consider the Nokia N95 8GB to be a better product than the Nokia E90? I am currently deciding between which if the two models to get.
Does the E90 yet have 'Assisted GPS'?
In most reviews I have read, PDA Essentials Issue 68 comes to mind, the HTC TyTN II has been awarded PDA/Hand held device of the year. How does the N95 8GB fair against the TyTN II?

slitchfield 03-12-2007, 08:13 AM Totally different form factors, different markets! And yes, the E90 now has assisted GPS, as at 7.40 firmware.
Unregistered 03-12-2007, 07:37 PM about t games, you can play fifa in landscape mode, and it does infact pull a "reverse landscape" but its stillw eird trying to press the numbers and the d-pad, i wish teh "dedicated media keys" could be not so dedicated. the nes emulator would be WONDERFUL. ps iv had my 8gb for 2 weeks now and it has been the most wonderful two weeks of my life i still find settings and stuff i didnt know existed.

They're completely different animals.
If you want 3D, games, a great camera, being light (!!!) and small and multimedia (incl. video playback, stereo speakers etc), don't even think of getting the TyTN II. However, if you don't need any of the above but need Windows Mobile and/or a built-in thumb keyboard and/or a touchscreen, get the Kaiser.

yup, the speakers of the N95 REALLY rock and are unbeatable. I've never owned a mobile device with such great and, what is more, stereo speaker(s). (I've had many.)
Unregistered 09-12-2007, 01:27 AM No lens cap or shutter? I've never owned a camera in my life without one, except perhaps a disposable camera. The lens cap not only protects the lens from damage, it keeps it clean. A cell phone is going to more prone to both problems than a typical camera. I don't know who they were listening to when they came up with that idea. That's just stupid. I doubt Carl Zeiss approved this.
The lack of non-removable memory is a very poor idea. Memory capacity increases and gets cheaper every year. The lack of removable memory just dooms this camera to being obsolete before its time. There are also times you are on the road, and just want to swap out memory without going to a computer.
The N95-3 also has the bigger battery, and more RAM, and retains the memory card slot. Unfortunately, it also loses the lens shutter. The 95 8GB looks like the bean counters got too involved with the design.
Unregistered 12-12-2007, 03:13 AM I dont disagree that most of the nokia phones rock, but why is it that nokia has to learn only thru its mistakes n ppl's feedback. Why cant they ever do proper research before fleecing genuine nokia addicts. I bought the original N95 with a lotta pride....... The battery died on me within a day. I invested in 2 extra chargers. 1 for my car n 1 for my office... The original charger does duty in my house.
Finally in 11 yrs of my using Nokia's when my N95 shut down with low battery i couldn't take it any more, i had to sadely chuck it off for less that half the price and yet again invest a hefty sum to get the E90. Fortunately the E90 lived up to my expectations. The only minus is the size, but after all its a communicator.
So what happens to all those original N95 users who feel that they were used as experimental pigs. What happens to their hard earned invested money????????????? After all these Nseries arent as cheap as the 1100's that we can buy virtually every day. & OHH i forgot to say, i also had a nokia 1100 handy, just in case the N95 battery died in my arms......
Hopefully nokia will have the balls to answer all such ppl's agony.....

Unregistered 19-12-2007, 01:30 PM is the front panel on the 8gb plastic too?
my n95 series1 is broke on the very top corner ny the small camera and it appears to be a cast metal, i have dropped it soo many times and its still mechanically sound.
same issue tho, memory, battery, it freezes all the time just general poor internals.
great review on the 8gb, thanks

Unregistered 22-12-2007, 03:17 AM I consider upgrading to this latest smart phone from Nokia, but I have some reservation on the earlier 6230 model. I know it is an old men’s phone-and I am too. So could anyone confirm that this Smart phone has lived up to making its functions to work with more mainstream formats and that Nokia will look after the update to correct obvious errors in its OS?
1. I had difficult to use the Nokia suit for this phone with (my up to date) PC.
2. Nokia has no updates for the 6230 model and I am still feeling to be left out in the cold with it.
3. The-files only copying would not allow download of addresses and other notes-date details.
4. The voice recording is limited to 3 min. and no way to change to longer.
5. The proprietary recording formats (voice-video) required me to invest in an other package to convert its output to commonly used MP3-AVI.. formats, even if this phone have MP3 playback.

Unregistered 03-01-2008, 08:48 AM err, yeah, great review, fairly in depth for the points covered, but i can't help there's bits missing.
What about the GPS? and the A-GPS? any improvements there?
Unregistered 03-01-2008, 09:45 PM hey, I found this on sale! just 709 bucks in canada...
http://www.pricebat.ca/Nokia-N95-8GB-Version-Unlocked-GSM-Cell-Phone.p_10063693/
It's good time to go get one. but i'm no sure does they ships quickly or not.
Unregistered?? 05-01-2008, 07:32 PM I've owned both for a while and I can say yes the n95 8GB is the greatest phone so far! There is no camera cap/shutter but I just put it into a microfibre pouch. You'll find they are used for glasses so it keeps the phone clean and when I need to wipe the lens or screen it's always there! ;)
My wishlist:
* Add qwerty keyboard
* Fill the entire slider with a high resolution wide screen so it would be something like 3.5 - 4 inches. They could move the d pad and buttons to the slider part or use iphone stlye touchscreen. There will no longer be the multimedia playback keys. I don't really see the point of these buttons because the D-pad can do exactly the same thing. The only potential use is for gaming and so far hasn't been implemented.
* Improve camera quality e.g. xenon flash, more megapixels, optical zoom, better lens etc.
Anyone else want to add what they'll like to see?
Unregistered 06-01-2008, 07:18 AM Hi
In response to the youtube question:
I got my n95 8gb approx 24 hrs ago after a fairly long winded decision making process. I've always been a sony erricsson man for reasons I can't really explain and I've never been a mac user but all the adverts etc had me thinking an iphone was going to be the way fwd. In the uk they are running a free data service so you get to do all that pinching malarky and youtube stuff for free. The ads make you think mobile internet shuld only be viewed on an iphone and that your tunes will be better and so on.
The reality is that unlimitted data useage is a £7 bolt on and unless you have cover art for all your tunes (which you might have bothered with but if you're like me and either d/l stuff off the internet or just rip cd's without the cover art, cover flow is a waste of time). The internet? well appart from the pinch and zoon gimick, apple have decided not to support java, windows media, flash etc etc so other than embedded images your not going to see a great deal more than you would on an n95 8gb.
This is my first nokia ever and I've got to say I am so glad I bought it, the internet is great, you've got the ability to look at a whole page and zoom on the bit you want, maybe not as gracefully as with an iphone but it does the job and well. Far more of the embedded bits and pieces are supported by the n95 8gb (probably the n95 too but i've never used one so can't comment). You tube works perfectly as far as I can see. I've looked at tonnes of stuff today over my home wifi connection and all the videos look spot on.
The big plusses as I see them over the iphone are: Camera is so much better its laughable, you've got 5mega pixels and zoom, plus night mode. You have a video shooting option which is really good quality given its a phone. You can send all manner of comms, sms, mms, emai, bluetooth, infrared.. etc. The iphone makes a big deal out of photos, multimedia etc but you have a rubbish camera (not much better than an erricsson k750i) no capacity to shoot video and you can't even send the photos you do take unless its over email - where the hell is mms on the iphone!?!?! The iphone doesn't even let you share pics, tunes etc by bluetooth whereas the n95 does. I can't count the number of times I've been in the pub or a club with some mates and either blue toothed them a song or a random photo. The idea of having all these tunes and pics, vids on an i phone, showing them to your mates and then having to email the files to them rather than just bluetooth is just crazy.
Another great thing about the n95 8gb over the iphone is software. OSx as far as I've heard is locked down and there's no healthy third party software scene. I've spent the last day downloading something called rotate me and learning how to self sign certificates through symbian.com. My n95 now flips from portrait to landscape instantly as I turn the phone on its side for better viewing of photos, web pages, games etc. Just like the iphone it has an "accelerometer" . All I can say about that is get on youtube and search on n95 8gb and you'll see some videos of what rotate me does. Also nokmote uses the accelerometer to allow you to play games/use your n95 by tilting it rather than touching buttons. Its only in beta stages at the moment but its awesome being able to play a driving game in landscape on your phone and steer by tilting the phone left or right rather than having to use the various buttons. Plus you've got tv out so you can plug the phone into your tv/monitor and play games in full screen and using your phone as the controller. Plus the phone jack acctually allows you to choose what head phones you use with the phone. The iphone has made the headphone jack so unreachable you are pretty much restricted to either using their headphones or canibalising a decent set of headphones to get them to reach into the jack. To me its just arrogance for apple to claim the iphone is 5 yrs ahead of everyone else, force you to use itunes, not let you assign mp3's as ringtones, make you use the white headphones etc.
The user interface and touch screen interfaces are superb but the rest is either lacking or just a product of apple trying to force you to use their products for everything. If you look at what the iphone does, the expense £269 plus contract restrictions and the fact you can't even expect the sealed in battery to last the 18 months you have to sign up for, you'd have to be mad to buy an iphone. How many people do you know with an ipod who've had to take it back to the shop because the battery stopped working and they want to charge you £100 for a new one. With any normal phone you can buy as many spare batteries as you want and if one runs down or starts loosing its ability to recharge you just stick a new one in and carry on. No waiting 3 days and pay through the nose to have some gonk smash your phone apart to get the battery replaced.
I may have gone on a bit of a rant but a week ago i was on the verge of buying an iphone despite the shortcomings until i stumbled across a ipone vs n95 8gb review and since then and especially since having an n95 i really can't see any reason for buying an iphone (iphones have google maps, n95 has proper gps!)
Unregistered 11-01-2008, 02:10 AM Looks like a great phone; I've been with SE for 4 years and have been convinced to convert. Had a play with one in Phones4U, an absolute pleasure i might add, and have been informed that 02 will be pushing it from Jan 21st 08 - just in time for the upgrade.
Unregistered 19-01-2008, 06:36 AM Hi,, i am about to buy a nokia n95 8gb. I previously had a n91 then a n95 but i dont like at all the sound quality of the n95 through the headphones-not hifi quality like the n91. So please can anyone tell me if n95 8gb is better in terms of sound quality if hifi or like the n91. Thanks
junchao8 19-01-2008, 09:56 AM No physical lens protection is kind of a deal breaker.
O2 currently offers free 8gb card with n95 classic according to metro advert.
Believe me, on n95, the non rescessed screen is so much better despite the same resolution. The recessed lens is also quite resistant to scatches, for me,then again it might be that I am not stuffing it into a pocket full of keys. Lens is also easier to clean in comparison to the classic, which was a pain. with out the lens cover, the phone feels better too. The extra big screen and huge ram, and its color made it a better choice over n95-1 and 3 for me; n95 8gb US edition is gone to be interesting, though when that get launched, and made mass availible, there are probably going to be hardware revision for n82 as well.
I compared my n95 8gb to a mate's n95 (which looks identicak to n95-3 accept for the lens), and n95 looks like a toy, a maximum of 30 mb of RAM makes perform like a joke. I got my n95 about 1.5 months ago, and I don't have the least regret about it, given i got it free on contract upgrade.
junchao8 19-01-2008, 10:17 AM I consider upgrading to this latest smart phone from Nokia, but I have some reservation on the earlier 6230 model.
Regards Wbear
1. Are you using an 'up to date' PC with less than 512 mb of ram? It takes a fast PC to smoothly run pc suite. N95 8gb also can act as a mass storage unit, basically allows 8GB of memory to be used just like a USB, without PC suite.
2.FW update or updated hardware? 6233 or 6300 replaces 6230, and since it runs on s40 v2, you cannot update firm over air; the product has been out for how long? surely if its FW updates that you are after, you must realise that the trail has gone cold, nokia probably thinks its mature enough.
3.You can use the nokia back up app for this function, in the future, after updating FW, you will keep your data, for now...
4.On n95 8gb, you may record 1 hour of high quality at a time if there is sufficient amount of memory left.
5.You can play most avi files on n95 8gb with free app from Divx called Divx player, now i wonder why they came up with that name. MP4 is natively supported; you can record VGA video @ 30 fps in 3gp or MP4. And record WAV with built in app; or mp3 with add on app.
manuss 23-01-2008, 06:05 PM hi,
i have the nokia n95 8gb version, im really happy with it but i have 2 questions.
1. How do i secure my messages with a password?
2. I have about 3 gig music on it but only 25 songs are displayed in the mp3-player, the rest of it is located on the harddrive. How can i put all of it on the mp3-player? so i dont have to pick a new song everytime?
many thanks

just got this phone in the uk and i love it !! x x
Unregistered 25-02-2008, 12:24 PM Don't understand this critism really. There are much better free video editing programs on the net and as for the memory..just put picture, video etc on you pc and move it to a memory card..how much hassle is that ?
Much prefer a stable phone than these extras.
the phone itself is probably one of the best symbain cell phones. Nevertheless, it is pathetic that it takes me 1 hour for transfering 2,5GB to the internal flash disk - approx 30% slower than a normal n95 with a micro sd card. Secondly the media player sync doesnt work correctly.
btw, I am pretty open minded and up for everything; but my flying visit to symbian 3rd edition ended abruptly. Its not flexible at all; no customizable homescreen, poor calendar (no posibility to replace the original one) and reading, managing etc. email is still a pain in the arse. Sorry for mention that - i know these are os restrictions (but I would get very angry - buying an E90, also series 60 3rd fp1, and being forced to do business with such a poor email client)
After two weeks i switched back to windows mobile. nokia should consider itself as pretty lucky that none of those windows mobile phones features such a great camera and stereo sound...
regards
irm
tkao2025 25-02-2008, 02:42 PM I agree with you4irm I don't mind for the N-series email clients and calendar being somewhat less user friendly than Windows or Blackberry, but for the E90 it's a definite turn off. That's why I have not purchased the E90...IMO the old S80 was better for business users than the current S60. Although you really can't beat the N-series phones right now on Multimedia. I have the N82 and I feel it is the best phone out there for that front.

...that's true, I own a 9500 as well but one of the hinges broke 1.5 years ago. I have chosen business functionality over multimedia. i was hoping to get a cell phone which offers me both...

Yeah me too....I think the next phone that's going to offer both that's been recently announced will be the SE X1...I'm excited about that device as it will have WM business user friendly software and Sony Ericsson Multimedia know how.

Ricky Cadden 01-04-2008, 12:51 PM I Can Proudly Say I Have Owned My N95 Since the 3rd Of April 2007, Its Release Date.
The Phone Is Good Yes. Amazingly Good Actually, But It Has Its Flaws, Like How Slow It Is! The Fact It Only Lasts 2 Days MAX With Full Battery Also If You Want to Record Anything Bring Your Charger Along Because It won't Last 5mins.
The Camera Is Absolutely Amazing, I don't Think I Have Ever Taken So Many Pictures In One Year Before. But I am Fed Up With It, Needing A New One, Everyone Has the N95 Now & I am Bored Of It.
The N95 Would Be Perfect If It Wasn't Such A Smart Phone & Trying To Be Everything At Once! The Speakers Are AMAZING On It. I Proudly Play My Music Louder Than Everyone Else, That's If I Know My Battery won't Run Out Mid Song!
Good Phone, Too Much On It!
Jasonko 07-04-2008, 03:12 PM Somone asked does the phone play FLV files, No phones play .FLV files.
The YouTube mobile site and other sites like BlogTV which have a mobile version use 3gpp streaming.
You are watching a streaming 3gpp file, not an FLV file.
They can be served from Helix or Darwin server.
The Nokia N95 8GB also has RealPlayer, so you can watch RealMedia, i have tested it on my own Helix server, It can play streams/files and live broadcasts no problem, and it works great!.
Best phone out there :) I agree shame about no video editor or lens cover.
But i love my Nokia N95 8GB phone.

i think i need to save them to mass memory, but i dont know how.
anyone help.?!
Unregistered 22-04-2008, 01:35 PM please could you or any one else make clear how to remove the announcement WLAN scan from the display of a nokia n95? thanks
people ask for everyting like this, like that, how come this, taht so many questions. ..like the memory card transfering issues, just take the miniusb cord, plug it to the pc's usb the transfer pics, vids, song, and print your pics. .. and the video editor, just transfer it to computer, use any video editor available in the web to edit your videos much better and nicer, why dosen't make it your self n95-8gb is a great smart fone, it can do many things in one pack, ..the "oh the camera covers are gone, why?" many fones are no covers in their lens but does not have scratch at all, just simply protect it.. but many users are so ignorant and so fuckin lame that they running by their fones, and not the fones are running by them.. .

DiJimon 14-05-2008, 10:31 AM I have just received my N95 8GB from Orange and I must say, I am seriously impressed.
A phone with much more capabilities, improved performance from the original N95 and the photo quality is really good. Everybody has their own opinion's based on their own experience but this phone must be reviewed only if you can 'step out of the box'.
With the new, slick, black finish, the N95 8GB is truly the best phone on the market. Even with its overloaded functionality, it still seems to be very light and yes I do agree, it can easily slip out of your hands so be careful!!
Coming from a pure Nokia background, I must say, this has to be the best Nokia handset I have ever used.
A double :icon14::icon14: from me!!

Unregistered 19-05-2008, 08:53 AM without dragging myself into a fan-boy apple debate, I'd say the following:
If you use apple software (ie already have itunes) and would prefer a thinner, and honestly better looking phone, then i'd recomend the iPhone, especialy if you like the touch-screen. Also, although i don't know much about what apps you can run on OSX, the iPhone has a faster processor. It also recently beat the N95 in an ease of usability study.
The N95 8GB, which i own, is better if you prefer more freedom with what you want to do with it. Unlike the iPhone you can get it on almost any network, and as far as i'm aware the OS is more flexible than that of the iPhone's. It is slightly less powerful, but unless you plan on doing alot with your phone you probably won't notice. Also, i much prefer real buttons to a touch-screen.
It's entirely up to you. They're both good phones.

Unregistered 28-06-2008, 08:32 AM Does the Nokia N95 8GB have TV-Out?
Also, what is TV-Out?
Thankyou!
Unregistered 22-07-2008, 10:16 AM Had Nokia phones for as long as I can remember. I bought the original N95 not long after it came out. I was totally awstruck but it did not last long. I am one of these 'heavy users' I suffered for many months and was constantly checking the nokia website to see if there were updates that would fix this. At this time I bought a spare battery from nokia for £25 which frankly is a rip off. I got more and more annoyed that nokia was not taking this issue seriously. Then out comes the N95-8Gb I looked at the specs and was not supprised in the least to notice that the battery had not been improved by nearly enough. I bought an 'unbranded' and probably explosive battery for my N95 and I rue the day it breaks. I can't imagine a better phone.
I'll stick with my N95 instead of N95-8gb because....
I'd have to buy another unbranded battery as they have not understood the scale of the problem. Done precious little to improve it.
I use an 8gb microsd and it means I can just pop it out put it in my laptop and voila in a minute or 2 I have copied a huge pile of mp3's (doing this by cable is SLOW, doing this with bluetooth is an overnight job) oh and I'll be able to grab one of those juicy 16gb ones in late autumn.
Ermmmm. Lens protector ? WHAT !! I got it nokia. The battery life joke was caused by those silly people who really enjoy taking pictures wasn't it. So you take away the lens cover so when after the first month the lens is scratched they will stop using it. cute trick.
In conclusion my disappointment with nokia is profound. I will not buy another phone from Nokia. Or it will be a cold day in hell before I do. The really crazy thing about it is I am in love with my pregnant n95(big battery bump) it never lets me down. Its a work horse and a really reliable one. The issue I guess is trust. Nokia let me down badly. Not by making an absolute dog of a phone but by making a really amazing one and not listening hard enough when it was failing in such a drastic way.
RUGGY 24-07-2008, 05:41 AM Its to great... to COOL, but all is not all new... OLD MENUS... OLD Themes... hope if half of 8GB memory is used it wont HANG... coz most of the NOkia Phones if 1/2 or 3/4 of the memory are used will HANG most of the time...
Hope we can watch TV in the cellphone just like China made phones that it only needs the antenna to scan channels available in the area then thats it I can already watch it to my phone without charges... If NOKIA is to Good why cant they make it... you need to fix it yet to your phone with the network provider if TV phone is available then it is also with CHARGES and it is charge per minute...
