View Full Version : Bluetooth Internet Sharing?
Boeky 07-01-2003, 10:09 PM Hi,
Does anyone know if there's any program wich can share internet connection of my pc with the nokia 7650 Symbian OS over bluetooth?
So I can send/receive mails, upload picturs and surf for free when I'm home.
Anyone knows such a program and can verify for sure that it works?
I'll buy it if I find a working demo version :)
I searched the formum but I didn't find any answers for now and I think someone mentioned it before....
Thank you,
Christophe.
MaleBuffy 07-01-2003, 10:17 PM Search better........It isnt a program but some settings with the phone!
Boeky 07-01-2003, 10:46 PM Indeed I found it after 3 hours searching :-)
Thank you for replying.
For everyone that wants to know how you share your PC's Internet connection:

I tried it using my IR port and it works fine for mail (only thing i tested so far)
I got another question now: Bluetooth will work 10m far
But will it go throu walls? So if I install an USB Bluetoth adaptor on a PC, I can connect my nokia 7650 no matter where I am in the house? Or do I have to stay in the same room of the PC?
JyriK 07-01-2003, 11:11 PM Yes, it goes thru walls. (if not made of metal :D )
Zipper 07-01-2003, 11:52 PM After 3 hours of searching!?!?!?!? Sorry to moan But it virtually dominates about a weeks worth of threads and posts!!! Its hard to miss!!! Theres like Loads!!! Hello Everyone :) Im back :) [been away for a few weeks]

Bluetooth will work through walls, but at lesser range.
I've found that most of the time I have to be in the same room, although you can step a little way into the next room and not need lign of sight
naivri 08-01-2003, 06:21 PM u kidding?
i can surf the net while im taking a shit through 2 walls at a distance of about 5 metres
Boeky 08-01-2003, 08:22 PM I guess it depends on the quality of your bluetooth device.
I saw cheap bluetooth usb devices for 30€ but the description said: works only 3m far. Then other devices with a price of 50€-70€ can go up to 12m.
So i gues you just need to read the description on the box before you buy it. I'd rather choose the one that goes far even if i have to pay 30€ more. Then I'll be sure I can use it at home wherever I want to be.
tiger42 08-01-2003, 09:06 PM I don't think that a bluetooth device working more than 10m makes any sense, cause I don't think that the 7650 will reach that far...
At least mine doesn't.

tiger42 08-01-2003, 09:08 PM Sorry for posting twice, but I got this strange error message both times:

naivri 08-01-2003, 09:32 PM i think the limiter to your bluetooth range is not your bluetooth on pc
its the bluetooth on your phone
a USB connector can only draw 500ma power max from USB port (or something like that) which gives them a range of approx 10 metres
an internal bluetooth card has a more powerful range coz it can draw more power from pc, but still limited by your phones bluetooth range
GhostDog 09-01-2003, 03:30 AM Well,it depends on both of them.
The bluetooth chip on the 7650 has a range of 13 meters at best.
On you pc you can have large variety of bluetooth devices (class 1,2 and 3)
The best ones have range over 200 meters.
