Yes its true

On both the Vodafone and Orange N95 the function to make VOIP internet call through Gizmo, SIP etc etc has been removed

It is present in the UK sim free version.

I have just been checking the differences between my Sim Free and Vodafone versions and discovered that it was missing, checked my brothers Orange one and it has been disabled also.

I have just re-flashed my Vodafone N95 to Euro 1 generic and it now makes VOIP calls perfectly.

I hate operators why do they have to screw phones !!

Also missing on the Vodafone N95

PTT app (which no one use anyway)
IM app (ditto)
System Rush Demo (can be downloaded)

You do get a 512mb mem card in the box though!!

In Tools/Settings/Connection - you will find sip settings, underneath that on the simfree phones is Internet tel. on my vodafone and my brothers orange N95 these setting were not available, hence the reason for flashing to a generic euro 1 firmware.

EURO1 PRODUCT CODE IS 0536062

That sucks!.

How do i go about reflashing the firmware?... Is it the same as for the N80->N80ie?

Also.. Is it possible to revert it back to the Vodafone F/W if i need to?

Thanks.
Anand

How have you managed to flash the phone? It's not yet on the list of supported devices on NSU.

I used Phoenix.

However although not stated on the list of supported devices if you plug it in to the NSU it will recognise the N95

I have a Vodafone branded N95, I have the sip options under connections, and I have set it up as far as I can see correctly,

Under the SIP settings on my phone it says "Registered" so it looks like it has worked. When I try to make a call I dial the number then press options, I was expecting to see an option to dial via sip / internet, but there is none.

Any ideas?

Is this the same results you are seeing?

If you read the first post... Ratkat says that this option is NOT available with Vodafone branded firmware.

SIP is used for other things besides VOIP, hence the SIP option remains. Its just the VoIP client that has been disabled.

I have it on Orange - no Internet Telephone option.
A friend of mine has it on Vodafone and I have tried it - no Internet Telephone option.
I have tried it on o2 and T-Mobile in their respective stores - both do have the Internet Telephone option.
I have no idea about Three.

Another friend of mine informed me that he spoke to Orange Fax & Data team and a decision was made by Orange to remove this feature from the firmware on their release of the n95.

Its annoying because I do a fair amount of travelling and don't exactly want to pay the stupid roaming costs that Vodafone charge. VoIP would have been so useful.

Vodafone, however won't be getting money from my roaming. I will just use a Voip client from my laptop or old N80 if I have to. (Until the generic firmware is available).

If you want to install the System Rush Demo, it can be downloaded from here:

Which probably explains why they did it, not everyone will have an alternative. Bit frustrating - I think the big networks would do well to offer their own VoIP service in the long run.

Does anyone know what the original Vodafone product code is?...

I changed it to the generic one, but forgot to note down the original product code first. (Just in case I need to change it back)

Thanks,
Anand

Just remember changing the network branded firmware to a generic firmare invalidates your warranty ...

Just spoke to Orange pe'ple. They transfered me to a couple of departments looking for an answer. So far I got as far as them saying that VOIP is a phone feature but not supported by Orange. No reason given. I was also told by their handset department that they will probably enable it in the future. I will receive a call from their wi-fi department (did not know they had one) n the next couple of hours. see how this goes...
