Steve reviews Digital Clock, slightly more innovative than it sounds, with permanently lit display and activation using your smartphone's charger. But is it a good enough replacement for the traditional bedside clock?

Steve, does it allow you to set a song in your MP3 player files, or an internet radio station, as the the alarm tone? That would really make it like a bedside clock-radio and would be very cool indeed.. :)

No to radio, alarm tone is the same as in Calendar, so it's up to you. Best if you drop the developer a line with suggestions though - it's not installed anymore on my device.

Tsk, it doesn't make you a cup of tea...
It'll never replace the Teasmade!

I gave up my alarm clock to a Series 3 in, um 1991 (?).
I grabbed the old "Snatch of Paganini" WVE file for my Series 5 "wake-up" alarm in, um 1997 (?) http://www.eroica.com/samples.html.
I moved the Paganini alarm sound to my P910 in 2004 and set the backlight to be on when it is in the stand on the bedside table and charging (SE does a nice job with desk stands so you don't have to prop your phone up on the lamp).
I could run the clock screensaver or "Big Ben" to have a clock display on the phone - in a STAND - all night if I wish - and with Gongs each hour on the hour.
And the software you just reviewed is revolutionary how?
The take- away here is that S60 does stuff now that I did 16 years ago on my PSION and 3 years ago on my UIQ phone.
WOW! How cool is that?
Sounds like we got a few things right back in them olde Psion days then !!

Doubly cool, when you think that the symbian operating system is an offshoot of PSION's operating system....
(cf wikipedia's entry on Symbian)

DC is innovative in that it automatically starts when the charger is plugged in and goes away when you unplug. One less thing to do etc. OK, so it's only a clock app, but very nicely done and worth a 75% score, IMHO.
