View Full Version : UK Availability
blobert 25-02-2003, 06:24 PM i am having to wait for a p800 on an upgrade because my next bill date is the 8th of march.
i have been quoted £ 150 on a OVP t-mobile daytime max tariff. via the retentions dept
however is there anyway of getting the phone now on standard orange tariff and then upgrading my tariff in 2 weeks time ?
can anybody help ??
For your interest/amusement, I popped into Orange at Liverpool St to try one out this evening, only to be told I wasn't allowed to as the last person who asked to test it proceeded to run off with it!! I think they were on the phone to the coppers when I was there. :D
the_hog_rider 27-02-2003, 01:59 PM P800 has now appeared on Vodafone's online store as:
"This phone may be available at your local Vodafone store."
Should we get our hopes up???
plymouthred 27-02-2003, 05:06 PM I received a telephone call from
www.mobileshop.com
this morning at 10:00 saying that they are getting the phone in stock tomorrow and would I like one? (funny question to ask I thought lol).
So I paid for it and the cost for an ORANGE 120 plan was £209.99 which included P&P. No insurance included with this price but I took out their own insurance which is 50p a month LESS than ORANGE CARE and you get the first 3 months for free.
The contract runs for 12 months (you cannot get a contract for less than 12 months) however for those who have said you can change it after 4 months, what I got explained was that you can lower your tariff after a 4 month period.
Hope that helps - err sorry I didn't ask about a VOD tariff though :(
Andy_P 27-02-2003, 05:12 PM If you buy from an orange shop you can change, if you buy from a 3rd party dealer you often can't.
Reefer 27-02-2003, 06:56 PM I have been waiting for this phone since it was announced, just like most people on this forum.
I am surprised to see some peoples posts saying they can get the P800 for £150 or less as an upgrade from Orange - I have an average monthly bill of £65-80 and they will not let me have one for less than £300 on an upgrade and a further £75 for the upgrade fee.
I have had this clarified 3 times by Orange
I am 7 months into my contract. Very annoyed that they have changed their upgrade policy but I guess I can see the broader picture.
Went and had a play in our local Orange shop yesterday and was very impressed - which takes a lot!
I guess I will have to sit and wait for mine, just to see what deals appear in the next couple of months, hell, I have waited this long! 8)
Managed to blag CarPhoneWarehouse to sell me the p800 for £149 after slapping some quotes from www.smalltalk.co.uk in their face !!!
plymouthred 27-02-2003, 08:09 PM On what tariff? Just curious?
Cheapest I have found (in stock) is for £209.99 on a 120 tariff.......

200 Minutes Anytime
plymouthred 28-02-2003, 08:11 AM So cost the same as mine then
£30.00 @ £149.00
£25.00 @ £209.00
Clever these people ya know :)
Phones4U have some stock (midlands).
Cost £200, no insurance required, with £25 - 120 minute anytime.
But if you want £30 - 200 minutes it is also £200.
Now to check the firmware.
120 minutes will do.
It does look good, I may have to carry my new IPaq to run some of my old psion programs such as RMRBANK and routeplanner, streetmapper etc.
At least for a while. :D
Spoke to Voda shop in Watford again and got a ray of hope as they are now saying the P800 is out on the 14th March.
Two weeks ago they told me end of April which I was hoping was wrong and so maybe thank goodness it was.
So hopefully it will be out in a week and a half on Vodaphone.
:) = mildly excited. But have learnt to not get too excited with anything about this phone until it actualy happens. It being on Orange already means it can't be long though.
plymouthred 03-03-2003, 02:39 PM Just received an email from the mobileshop.com that my P800 was despatched at 13:00 today and should be with me tomorrow
:)
Ukmouse 03-03-2003, 03:52 PM I went into a vodafone shop near me on the weekend. They said they would start getting them in from Friday. They told me that the phone would be locked to vodafone because it is a Vodafone live handset, but, I have spoken to vodafone direct and they say it isnt fully compatiable with live so it will come unlocked. Am looking forward to recieving my P800 soon. :P
This is crazy, thought i'd share this situation....
Im currently an Orange customer, so, naturally thought it would be cheaper to upgrade. To my shock, it's more expensive! Mobileshop.com
quoted 360ish, orange say it's same price as buying it new. This is crazy.
if i want to keep my number, the cheapest way would be to ditch orange and go to an other network!! Surely this is going to lose orange bussiness.
Do you think i have a chance of swaying orange upgrad to giving me a cheap P800? IT's mad otherwize, - cheaper to buy a new phone from a place like mobileshop, or onestopphoneshop rather than orange is bad enough, but going to another network is even worse. :(
L
plymouthred 03-03-2003, 05:27 PM L,
Yes I too am an orange customer and it is far more expensive to upgrade but this is the only way you can keep your number however.....
I have just purchased one from www.mobileshop.com with the 60 free messages per month for 6 months. So with that many and also the fact that you can send 30 per month free online I thought 'sod it' and have bought a new one as I can let everyone know my new number basically free of charge (in a roundabout way of course). My phone for a 120 minute tariff was £209.00, 3 months free insurance and 60 x free texts.
The upgrade with orange was a staggering £329.99 just to keep my old number.........
However I told orange that I am getting a new one and they are sending me a free PAYG SIM for my old phone so I won't miss any numbers calling in.......You must do this though 30 days plus prior to your old contract expiring.
Hope that helps a little bit?
Yousaf 03-03-2003, 05:37 PM have u guys actually tried to cancel ur contract? i did and the customer retentions team offered me a great deal :)
Andy_P 03-03-2003, 05:38 PM and i also heard that orange will let you divert calls from one number to another for free as long as they are both orange :)
This may not be true but I dont see why..
plymouthred 03-03-2003, 05:39 PM Yes I did and they were not very helpful especially as I only have just under 3 weeks to run on it anyway!
Happy with a new number anyway just so everyone else can gloat at my phone.........
Ohhhhhh
Reefer 03-03-2003, 07:11 PM have u guys actually tried to cancel ur contract? i did and the customer retentions team offered me a great deal :)
Good for you m8, I have been with them for years and have monthly bills of over £65 and they didn't give a hoot!
:(
plymouthred,
Thanx alot, think this may solve my problems if orange send you a free PAYG sim for the old number...though, can the p800 hold both sims?
Another thing is, i heard orange had unlimited gprs for £6 a month....
anybody else got this?
L
Yousaf 04-03-2003, 07:33 PM the have a unlimited wap access pack which includes wap over gprs - thats £4 a month and the £60 a month includes internet over gprs aswell but is only available with the SPV handset.
but thats a promotion as far as im aware as i have an spv and it expires in april.
finally as for u guys that got a raw deal from upgrades, i sugget u switch ur phones to the virgin tarrif cos u dont get charged line rental and get a p800 on a new contract and have all your calls diverted from ur old number to ur new one for free via orange everyphone.
hope it helps but thats so outa order that they make old regular customers pay crazy ammounts for upgrades and a new customer gets it dirt cheap when ud think theres more incentive for them to want existing customers to stay.
simion_levi 04-03-2003, 08:00 PM Sorry, switching to OVP Virgin, if you are still under contract, costs £15 per month now (used to be £10). It's only no line rental if you
a) sign up to a phone on OVP Virgin (i.e. pay lots more for the handset in the first place)
b) Are out of your contract period.
It's thus cheaper to switch to the HSD tariff and divert, at only £10 per month, until your old contract runs out - then goto OVP Virgin and continue with the diverts.
EDIT: just to note - i know many people upgrading will probably be out of their contract so this is useless information as far as they are concerned; but similarly i know lots won't be, and upgrade with Orange midcontract - this info is for them, not those who are past their 12months! :)
Yousaf 04-03-2003, 08:19 PM yeah i know i was reffering to people who have had an orange contract over 12 months and were not getting decent upgrades prices and still wanted 2 recieve calls from their old number.
orange everyphone doesnt cost a penny when diverting from orange 2 another orange number or landline.
EDIT: ooops just read ur edit and realised you had already acknowledged that!
anwar 04-03-2003, 09:42 PM went into CPW today in oxford st to ask when they think they would be selling the phone handset only uk spec. and they told me now! the deal was £499 and it would take 3 days to deliver. so ive ordered one and it should arrive friday.
Zoidy 05-03-2003, 09:24 AM Hi,
well after having my order placed with SE Eshop for a month I have now cancelled that and order it with Carphone Warehouse online and it will be here tomorrow :-). Had to phone though as its not on their website yet.
Carphone Warehouse staff are always really helpful, which is much more than can be said for SE Eshop.
Pete.
PS NOBODY order from the SE Eshop.....they are totally useless and Justin doesnt know what he is talking about. They STILL dont know if they will have stock today!
wow, it is really taking a long time :(
Bassey 05-03-2003, 10:29 AM Just received a phone call from Extele in Leicester. They have literally just received stock of the UK spec phones and I'll have mine Friday. Would be Thursday but I live on the Isle of Man so it'll be a day longer.
Sorry, forgot to ask if they had any excess stock. Was too excited :-)
EDIT
Also noticed the SE online shop in the UK now has the P800 listed for £425 but, if you try to order it, you get an error saying "Stock not available"

just canceled my Eshop order, and ordered one from the carphone warehouse... I phoned my local store and they have done a mail order one for me They have guaranteed delivery for tomorrow before 4pm!!!
They only had 12 left in stock when I ordered mine about an hour ago...
Dinalli 05-03-2003, 01:44 PM Is it just Orange and the SE Shop that have them in at the moment.
I ordered one off a mobile phone website, earlier in the week.
simion_levi 05-03-2003, 02:08 PM No, it's just Orange and CPW, and possibly some internet retailers on Orange.
SE shop has never seen a P800, and probably never will at this rate - I'd say it's quite amusing really, but i suspect all those who are still waiting, rather than buying it on Orange like many of us, won't see the funny side of it just yet! :)
-------------------------------------------------------
This was not posted from a P800, as it's in my other hand, playing Doom at this very moment....

FYI: I the phone I got from carphone warehouse was sim free. £499.99 (also no delivery charge!)
Zoidy 05-03-2003, 02:29 PM I agree,
SE Eshop are losing out big time. I'd ordered £570 worth of things including the P800. Tough luck to them for being naff!
CPW have had good customer service before now. They may not be very technical but they are always friendly.
I really hope all those that have ordered with SE Eshop are now cancelling their orders and getting the P800 through CPW.
I already know of two people that have :-)
Pete.
Bassey 05-03-2003, 02:43 PM Or, as mentioned above, extele who are also £500 (plus £4 P&P) for sim free. And their web site (www.extele.com) do make it look like they have some available stock, though I can't vouch for it.
Dinalli 05-03-2003, 02:54 PM looks like i could be waiting a few more weeks then. At least from what ive read it will be worth the wait.
anwar 05-03-2003, 09:37 PM went into CPW today in oxford st to ask when they think they would be selling the phone handset only uk spec. and they told me now! the deal was £499 and it would take 3 days to deliver. so ive ordered one and it should arrive friday.
update.... CPW actually delivered the phone today ! cant believe ive actually got the phone now ! im just kinda looking at it too scared to switch it on!! :D (well it does say to charge for at least 4 hours before first use!)
hope everyone waiting for theirs, get theirs soon also.
phones4u.co.uk now have pricing for O2 on their site

Wow, just as I read your post Anwar, reception in my office phoned me to say my new phone had been delivered by CPW :-). Just got it out of the packaging and its sooooo gorgeous! I love it!!! Charging now. Unofrtunately have lots of work to do so I cant play with it just yet. It's nice to look at though!
Pete.
Andy_P 06-03-2003, 12:09 PM Glad youve finally got it Pete !

Dinalli 08-03-2003, 02:31 PM mine arrived from mobileshop.co.uk this morning so they have some stock, not sure if thats just pre orders
Well I just ordered my one from Scancom.co.uk.
for £50 :D:D:D
But the tarriff is £50 as I use it alot.
I have another pohne on contract just now, but orange would give me a penny of the retail price. ! cheek !
So I'm going to get a new contract and turn the old one into a pay as you go account :)
plymouthred 09-03-2003, 05:59 PM Exactly what I did..............
My contract runs out on the 25th of this month......
Isn't the P800 brilliant!!
dont turn ur old mobile into pay as you go - just change ur tarrifs to virgin mobile ovp (no line rental) and divert ur calls accross to your new number via orange everyphone (for free with no costs for the diversion)
you get more or less the same call rates as the pay as you go plus free cheaper calls to customer services - u can call free phone numbers and your not tied down to any contract and can canel when you wish ;)
oh and a free answephone
Well i've done it.
After months of waiting I have bought one from Phones 4 U.
Vodaphone shops still do not have them in stock yet. They will not give their special offer 6 months half price line rental because it is not a fully "Vodaphone live" phone and they want £299 for it.
So I started looking around.
I don't like phones 4 U very much because the sales people are just high pressure salesman (see if you can leave the shop without buying insurance), and mostly wideboys. (sell phones one day and work in BurgerKing the next). But I had to think about their offer, 3 months free line rental on Voda Crossnet 100 (usualy £23 per month) and the phone for £250. I think it's the best deal going at the moment. So I gave in. Sorry Vodaphone, sort your shops out, they don't even offer crossnet 100.
carlhunt 11-03-2003, 08:40 AM Any other good deals out there ?
No too worried about calls/SMS but just getting the
the lowest total cost for the hardware.
Dinalli 11-03-2003, 09:05 AM I got mine from mobileshop.co.uk at the weekend for 50 quid, had to go on the 50 quid tariff for 4 months, but I will use most of them calls anyway.
tigernet 11-03-2003, 11:45 AM And a great phone/tool it is too!!
Dinalli 11-03-2003, 01:56 PM i have to say its pretty unbelivable, Ive been downloading movie clips and mp3 on to it and everything over the last few days, i did put some ringtones on there that i had used on my 7650, and they sounded 1000 times better. im just waiting for a bigger memory stick now.
Interesting to hear what offers people are/aren't being told about by different places. The Phones4U where I live hadn't got any and they do look like a bunch of wideboys, though the chap I originally asked about the phone a month or two back was pretty clued up. Tried Vodafone on the Strand yesterday and they offered me the half-price line rental (again, £299.99) but it's still expensive as I seem to use phones mostly for texts. Another shop (Ideal Fones) said it wasn't coming out on T-Mobile, 5 minutes after I'd seen it on that in Carphone Warehouse. A note of warning in CPW, their system says £330 but some of their displays say £199 and I think that they have to sell it to you a the displayed price. The best offer so far is Orange who are also doing interest free credit for 6 motnhs. I notice VOD are offering it on some models, CPW won't. I just need to see what O2 are offering and then I will get one. Any idea when O2 release?
plymouthred 11-03-2003, 02:25 PM I got mine through
www.mobileshop.com/mobilephones/orange/paymonthly/ericssonp800.php
for £209.99
Magic phone and still working my way through the user manual!!
Am also waiting for CPW to supply the P800 on O2. I really don't know why this is not available yet since Phones4U seem to be able to supply a P800 on "regular" O2 tariffs.
The Orange shop in "The City" (London) are getting a delivery on Friday of this week.
£299 for an upgrade, price includes a "free" Bluetooth headset (no doubt the chepest one!).
They are pushing it quite hard (as if they need to), with a handout leafleting campaign.
Bully_Beef 11-03-2003, 02:49 PM I just ordered mine from mobileshop for £49.99 so I am looking forward to it being delivered later this week....
:turn-l:
BB
Dinalli 11-03-2003, 04:06 PM got mine for the same deal last week, top stuff, bit of a bargain if u ask me.
got mine for free on orange talk 700 (for 4 months @ £70)
with a free remote control car and £40 camera :D
beat that!
carlhunt 11-03-2003, 06:25 PM Go on then - where from ?
got the wap to work, but not the web
any tips gratefully received
carlhunt 13-03-2003, 10:29 PM www.avrmobiles.co.uk have the P800 on the
£42.50 OVP T-Mobile Everyone 300 tarriff 12 month
contract for £25. Yes there is a 120 day tie in but then
with another 8 months on the high speed data
plan that comes to £275. Not in stock but ....
Any better deals ?
Well, true to their word, Orange got a load of stock yesterday, so I got my P800 this morning. Hurrah !
£249 which included :-
A Free DVD (Spiderman .. but could have had others)
A Free HBH-30 bluetooth headset
Conversion of Line Two onto PAYG, plus £20 of credit
Can't wait until tommorrow to start using it. Without even turning it on, the general reaction from work collegues was WOW.
the_hog_rider 15-03-2003, 07:51 AM Doe's anyone "really" know when Vodafone are going to extract the digit and let us buy this thing?
Cheers and God bless
the_hog_rider 24-03-2003, 05:29 PM You may already know but the Vodafone shops should all have at least two P800s each. :D
Anyone found a cheaper proce than that found on avrmobiles?
Vodaphone shop, Watford, said they have had the phones for a week now. They said most initial stock was taken by staff and that they are selling out as soon as they come in. So I suppose as their shops are selling them, it must be officially out on Vodaphone although there is no stock for us lowly customers. Lucky I defected to Phones4U. Ha Ha Ha.
I picked one up from Vodafone Retail in Cambridge on Thursday. They seem to have plenty in stock.
