Following a regrettable incident somewhere between the 14th and 17th pints at last year's work Christmas party I've just received a replacement N80 from my insurance company, bless them.

It appears to be a fully unlocked phone (product code 0535762) and has FW version 4.0623.0.42 (20-09-2006).

FOTA option is available but every time I use it I get an error message of 'Operation Canceled by Server'. I've tried using WLAN and GPRS.

I read elsewhere that reflashing the existing FW would fix this but having done so it's apparently not true. FOTA worked just fine on my last, tragically lost N80.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

It may not be your new device. I had used FOTA to upgrade to the current (same as yours) version of software. However, now (ever since 1-16-06) I've had the same issue as you. Hopefully they are working to allow FOTA upgrade to N80ie from n80 and were on the cusp.....
